Ok, I need a dev to clarify this for me.
I know that the server will not be sending data to the client that it does not need to know. For example, if Im behind a big hill, and theres an army at the other side, my client will not be sent any data related to those objects as I cannot physically see them.

Therefore if I where to install a graphics driver hack to allow me to see through the hill, I would not suddenly be able to see the army at the other side. Nor would I be able to see people behind walls etc.

If I where to sniff the packet data (and break any encryption I hope you are performing on said packets) I would not be able to glean any information I would already be privy to via teh screen. (Ala showEQ stylee). There would be no point, because any data thats being sent to be is data I can already see anyway theres no data being sent that is then discarded. The server does the checking not the client, meaning its hack-proof..... or is it....

Now to my question:

Lets say, I'm stealthed. I'm not moving, not at all. I'm at rest.

Now for all intents and purposes, this means that anyone scanning the screen for incoming enemies will not see me, as Im not moving. I want to know does this mean that their client will not recieve data about me? And any subsequent successful packet sniff will not reveal my location?
And will any installed graphics driver hacks to reveal cloaked people will also not reveal my position, as the client doesnt even know Im there.

I guess what Im asking is this - do clients get informed of stealthed people and is the cloaking handled client side, or server side (EG no data relating to my stealthed-at-rest-avatar is sent to clients EXCEPT if they have lowlight)...

Now to the next question:
I am now moving slowly, for all intents and purposes the enemy cannot see me but if they look carefully they can see my shadow moving, distorting the environment ala preditor stylee... Now, their client MUST have data about me sent to them in order for them to see the distortions in the environment.

Now said graphics hack will have an effect as my moving character will show up as some other kind of effect being more visible to see than the default one.

Now said packet sniffer will reveal my location, so I hope to god you have some decent encryption keys in there changing daily, as I know the lengths people go to to get at this data and how easy previous Verant protections where to break(showEQ).

Thanks for your time on this one! And please don't come back with some lame "people will not go to such lengths to do this" because I guarantee you they will!

Data is encrypted between the client and the server and we do have substantial security systems in place to thwart packet-sniffers and the like. We can't go into detail about what is client-side and what is server-side, but I want to assure you that these are issues that the Dev-Team has been considering. We could not expect to be successful without it.
We recognize the lengths some people will go to in order to defeat security and encryption. This is the advantage of having a live Dev-Team after launch. If a user is innovative enough to find ways to exploit our system, we'll be able to address this before it becomes a problem.
