Firefall is good.... GREAT even.
It's another open world persistent F2P shooter but with PvE focus and PvP arenas rather than the world war that planetside is.
Red5 is also an outstanding dev team, and they're as interactive with their community as SOE is, if not more.
I'll definitely turn to Firefall for my PvE coop fix, which is another reason I opposed the NPC armies idea... I want Planetside to stay pure PvP, there are other games
designed around PvE that I'll play for that fix (WHICH, I should point out, is
significantly less than my PvP game time SOE... so think carefully before you go changing your game
)
As noted above too, they just did a
massive class rebalancing and redesign based on both PvE and PvP feedback. They still have TONS of work to do for sure... PvE content is fun but they need more. LOTS more. And yah, the whole invasion thing isn't complete and all kinds of things.
It's gameplay is tight, the classes are fun, the UI takes a minute to get used to but it's really non-obtrusive and really easy once you get the hang of it. It's a really well designed game, and I don't want people who are just reading this thread hearing about it for the first time dismiss it so easily.
FFS it's going to be F2P so there's no reason to not even try it out. If you like Coop shooters, it looks like it'll serve that dish up nicely. You can sign up for beta here:
