Question So our MCG is now a RCG......


So the mighty TRs MCG has gone from this





To this RCG


Why am I calling it an RCG? well it ain't the MCG that's for sure and I won't ever refer to it as such if that's what you propose it is.

So there must be reasons why the dev team have decided to take away yet another iconic style of the Terran Republic and place an impostor there (The Prowler being the other)
We have all seen this version about


I assume it has to do with game play restrictions of under slung weapons not working well in this games fast FPS style?

What I don't like is being ambushed by the dev's about it. Why did you choose this medium to showcase the gun, instead of making a thread/topic here or over on the official forums to discuss your changing of it?

I'm not going to condemn the gun solely on the merits that it's not under slung as some might do, I'll evaluate its combat effectiveness in the field and make up my mind, you could have just handled it a bit better is all.

I think it's disappointing to lose the hip-fire style the MCG had.
I guess the same will happen to Jackhammers too, which sucks.
It was part of what was making those weapons look and feel badass (their designs, sounds, and efficiency were the other ingredients).

Anyway the new MCG (or whatever you wanna name it) still has a pretty cool look which might turn it into a new signature weapon.
But yeah... Using iron sight with a chain gun => wtf were you thinking about SOE?!

Actually, it is because of beta that some things are not carved into stone already. Its beta and lots is to change. They haven't even introduced the MCG into the game yet, so you haven't a single piece of solid evidence that it won't look like your standard MCG.

The weapon in that picture is obviously just a temp model. Check the launcher/updater. Theres a normal MCG in one of the pictures.

Or go back to overreacting and not understanding what 'beta' means.

In all likelihood SOE wouldn't have a placeholder model feature so prominently in a video meant to show off one of the more popular classes in their game. Especially not at this stage of PS2's development. How many other weapons currently in the game now are just using placeholder models? Developed, polished, and completely visibly functional ones at that.

Maybe this is SOE testing the waters, seeing how people will respond to the change, but as of right now this is what the MCG is going to look like. If folks don't like it complaining might get it to change.

Yeah, that pics on this site too. It was released a long, long time ago. Long enough for gameplay changes or issues with underslung weapons could've lead to a re-design.

You say I've got no proof. You're not giving any either.

The fact is that picture in the launcher is several months old. And after that one picture, we haven't seen the MCG a single time again.

Then, we have that new picture Canaris posted.

My bet is that the one in the launcher has been cut out of the game and replaced by the new one.

By the way, I completly understand what beta means, thank you.
But as I pointed out, not everything we don't like can or will be changed. Beta or not.

I guess we can assume that all the other HA weapons were cut by this logic.

There are multiple variations of the HA weapons in PS2, this thing we saw in the video is not the MCG, but likely the "Behemoth", the lightweight variant. The MCG is still even being used as the placeholder icon for the TR chain gun section of the store. There is absolutely nothing to indicate that this thing in the video replaced the PS1 MCG design. Just because we didn't see the MCG in that short overview, that didn't even include any of the other faction's HA weapons, doesn't mean it was cut.

I dunno... that just looks off.

It's supposed to have weight and be, ya know, HEAVY?
It has to look cumbersome.

Hopefully this is a stand-in model so they can test the balance while they continue to work on character animations for under slung weapons.

Personally I think it would be fine if that was a new design..I like the idea of being able to aim the thing.
It could also just be a certification option.
