3 Questions

1. Are you able to use implants when driving a vehicle?

2. There are gonna be 1000s of players. So how is chat controlled? Such as a range to what messages you receive so you dont end up reading everything your team says.

3. Are BEPs given thru kills or damage? (i.e. a kill = 100 BEPs, or lets say he has 100hp, you damage him 53hp thus = 53 BEPs) I ask this because, too often I find people stealing my kills, and if it is kill based... well...

I don't know about the BEP.

But, damn, I would hope it's based on kills. If an NC MAX is holding down a hallway, and has a medic behind him healing him, I don't want anyone on my side to gain anything until that MAX is dead. They could go on hurting him forever.

Oh, and to clarify -- I do think it would be cool if the BEP system kept you in mind, and when someone was killed you got a few BEP for damaging him. But only if he dies eventually.

No better feeling in DAoC than poisioning someone, they kill you, then they die of poision.

But you didn't get points for it

Sadness^2

Not sure on implants, no public info.

You cannot broadcast continent wide or empire wide to your team until higher command ranks. "Open Channels" only go a certain range. Outfit and Squad chat are global.

I dont know exactly how BEP's are determined.

Barring NDA violations, Hamma;

Does this high CP broadcast ability function in a seperate channel that players can toggle on and off? Would be annoying to have Bob and Joe arguing with each other over which band they like is better than another without the ability to shut it off

Do commanders have command-only channels? Might be nice to have commanders able to communicate as a group without having gimps involved, and without having to be in the same platoon/outfit.

From teh shoutcast:

Will MAXs be able to make use of the melee booster, or any booster for that matter?

Well, there are a couple of implants that MAXs cant use, and since they cant use a knife, they cant use a melee booster. In general, they can use most of the implants. We set that up so a player wouldnt be penalized for choosing certain certification. Anywhere from a range magnifier to a personal shield still can be used by a MAX. In fact, things like regeneration or some of the things that can be very handy. For instance, a MAX can be really annoyed by an Infiltration suit, so using a Darklight implant or an audio amplifier to be able to find out where those people are can really help. So yes, you can definitely use implants on everything.

As for vehicle drivers and pilots, they have the same situation as MAXs

I doubt they can toggle it. Would be a pointless ability if it could just be ignored.

And yes, there is a command channel

I read on one of the DEV interviews that BEP's are based on kills and are shared out amongst a squad i.e. if you are in a squad who is about to bring down a Vanu gimp tank, you'll all get equal points no matter who makes the kill. I think that's the best way they could handle it, no BEP stealing that way.

Obviously, there would still be kill stealing if the person who finished it was not in your squad.

But I doubt it's really an issue? Who the heck cares if they steal your kill once in a while? This isn't a level based game. It's just extra cert points. With there being only 20 levels, I'm sure it won't take too long to get them.

That's true, with the amount of kills you should be able to get in the game I doubt losing one kill will make a difference. Unless you're a Vanu, in which case you'll have to try and keep whatever kills you're lucky enough to get.
