I'm banging this out on the spur of the moment.
Bastion Fleet Carrier... so the outfit/faction gets enough points/resources to obtain one, now it would be OP if none of the other factions on the continent had one to go up against it right. It would wreck shop. Yet we still want it to be this Leviathan of destruction, it should not be effectively countered by ground forces or concentrated vehicular fire that would be boring not to mention pathetic, instead it should absolutely annihilate anything on the ground . So you know that big canon in the Tech Plant above point [ A ] , make it bigger link it with the SCU so when the Bastion comes into play we would have a legitimate means to counter it which would not only be effective but be as equally freaking cool. The top of the Tech station should split open and the canon (or railgun ) gets deployed. Give it a range of let's say for eg. "x" numbers of hex's (just for example here) therefore if the Fleet carrier enters within range of "x" hexes it will come under attack from the cannon. Therefore the Carrier will have to enter a holding pattern, outside of the range of the cannon. If opposing factions hold multiple Tech Plants you can confine the carrier to in or around it's warp gate. Now this is where the ground forces come in, they will need to neutralize the tech plants to give the Bastion space to dominate the smaller outposts and conquer the rest of the map. Note: if the Bastion can stay out of range it could just sit there safe so i guess some kind of BF 2142 Titan-esque gameplay needs to be added. Understand that with the amount of people playing planetside 2 and with more continents coming " World Domination " will be extremely difficult to achieve , of course that's the way it should be but with multiple fronts to cover there will be stalemates lasting weeks or more. Look at Indar on Waterson even with the VS on such a low population we couldn't manage to throw them out ( brilliant team work and tenacity respect for all you guys still playing VS even though severely handicapped ), we only managed to capture the continent after people stopped caring for or playing the game. The point of the Bastion would be a force multiplier for factions who are dominating but are spread too thin, trying to defend their conquered continents. Obviously you will not be able to spawn these carriers whenever you like, but with your faction/outfit hoarding the resources/points for when they deem it to be best used. I think factions should be in control of a certain number of continents , these continents contribute the materials required to build the Bastion. Also I would like to have the idea to be able to park the carrier on one of our conquered continents so it can be safely kept when the outfit wants to log off, and then bring it back the next day. So there's my idea and also why i think Fleet Carriers are relevant and how they can be the great war machine we want it to be while still having an effective and equally awe inspiring counter. P.S. - you know the alarm sound of that secret weapon in bfbc2 the japanese have ? The Tech Plant canon (which should be a railgun) should have that audio but shorter and sharper. I was envisioning something more along the lines of a battleship. Do you really see the need for a troop and armor transport there are multiple facilities from which you can easily stage attacks from.
Once the Loadstar makes a comeback the use for the Bastion as a fleet carrier would further diminish. Like I said up there, you may not feel it now but later on when there are 5-6 continents you feel the need for something that bolster your numbers. 2. IO believe this was already stated to be the default resource cost for them. 3. NO! NO NO NO NO NO! This would inhibit the use of the Bastion completely. Your outfit leader/high ranking officers should be able to pull the Bastion no matter how many continents/hexes/facilities your faction is in control of. 4. This is not needed. The pilots of the Bastions should already be aware of how far away from a Tech Plant they are. That's what the map is for and that's why we have a little somethin'-somethin' called TACTICS! Oh, and SELF AWARENESS! Overall, great ideas mostly. Keep it up! |

1. This is a WONDERFUL idea, but would possibly require massive base layout re-designs, pushing back the release date for the Bastion. Also, would the cannons be automated or operated by players? If automated, how would the system work? If opperated by players, is there a certain ammo count or an overheating bar? Would there be any zoom levels to it? How would it work?\
It would be automated and is directly powered by the SCU in the Tech Plant and as there is a range to it the Bastion cannot move forward until ground forces take down the SCU to power down the cannon. Additionally it makes sense to have to have the Tech Plant Hex connected to and Amp Station for power, although this would spread out the defending forces. 3. NO! NO NO NO NO NO! This would inhibit the use of the Bastion completely. Your outfit leader/high ranking officers should be able to pull the Bastion no matter how many continents/hexes/facilities your faction is in control of. I guess a fight between two Bastions would be epic. So the Cannons should be implemented as a effective counter to the Bastion if the opposing faction has already lost their's or don't have enough resources. I want the Bastion to seem OP but have effective counters that seem OP too but actually are balanced. That way we get the best of both worlds. Last edited by TheAadvark; 2013-05-22 at 01:36 AM. |
