Recently on Redditside there was a very well written post on the Vanu Sovereignty's position and potential were they to succeed in conquering Auraxis. It essentially promised a paradise beyond what we are likely even capable of imagining: no more war, starvation, or death. No one to force you to do anything you don't want to. Just an eternity to live, learn, and enjoy the universe around you.
To say it sounded too good to be true would be an understatement. Solving every single one of mankind's problems was treated as if it was just something they could do in their sleep with nanite technology. And to them, it was an inevitability. No where was there even a hint that things might not be as they seemed. For a faction that espouses the virtues of the scientific method and logical thought nowhere did they even factor in the idea that there might be some sort of price associated with all of that potential. Skepticism, mankind's scientific and logical compass, seems stunted within their ranks, replaced with dogmatic, shortsighted fervor to rush toward a future that may be much darker than they believe. There are even implications that the man whose ideas founded their movement, Henry Briggs, was lead to suicide by the visions that he received. What was it that he saw? He supposedly spoke directly to Vanu, so what did he learn? Is it not possible he and the rest of the VS are being manipulated by forces beyond their comprehension? Perhaps Briggs had a revelation that Vanu doesn't have humanity's best interests in mind; that they are merely pawns in some alien scheme? Could the guilt of leading his followers into the arms of a new, much more powerful tyrant than they've ever known before have lead him to take his life out of shame? All I'm saying is that we don't have all the answers. What I find disturbing is that this doesn't seem to bother the self-proclaimed "scientifically minded" Vanu Sovereignty. Vanu may have some skeletons in his xeno-closet that we're unaware of, but the VS have been blinded by their ambition. Surely I can't be the only one who feels that way? |

Heres some scientific observation for the VS: My guass saw fires a whole fuckton of ammo. this equates to a whole fuckton of dead vs and tr. Their science isn't furthering things, whatever it is.
nuff said.

Every faction is supposed to have its ups and downs.
Thus PlanetSide is IN THE GRIMDARKNESS OF THE FAR FUTURE, THERE IS ONLY WAR now, in response to your statement: The intellectual factions typically have some sort of misguided or undervaluing problem to them. See Tzeentch and SIIIINNNDRRIII. Tzeentch'll just kill you off because he's had his fun with your little plan and wants to move on to the next one. The Eldar, too, have this aery mystery around them, and they are being lead on by farseers, autarch, and such that know for a fact that the Eldar are doomed. In WarCraft, Arthas didn't know what frostmourne would do. He was a sharp thinker but he was hopeful. Turned out that was a bad choice, and now he's a former paladin turned lich king. And there's Anakin Skywalker. Guy wasn't dumb. He just wasn't mindful of the consequences. The Dark and High Templar? How the Zerg came about? Even in real life, there's the Communists and the Fascists. You'd say that's the TR's route, but both the commies and the fascists tried to use science and logic to reason out their cause. Didn't work. The Romans had the most resources to build the best civilization, but they ultimately couldn't keep it. Vanu appear to be loosely based on rome/greece (esp. in ranks). Now I realize that's a hilariously weak end-point, but you get the idea. Mr. Briggs killed himself probably because the Vanu are having their "last laugh" at this war. vanu will force us all to go vegan!
now if that´s not pure evil, i don´t know! and all the solutions to mans problems are hollow! they can produce bacon by nanites, but it tastes like broccoli, and they say their science will ensure a world of peace where nobody is forced to do anything, but all their science came up with were weapons to slay the infidels!

Despite being Vanu for quite a while, I tell you what, there are lots of shades:
A) The Vanu alien only makes contact with 1 man. You see where this is going, right? B) Despite the "scientific method", the whole faction is based on... FAITH? C) There're zealots, obviously, ones who will destroy the planet with everybody on if just told that Vanu wants it. Negative people, existing with with any faction, same to criminals fighting for the NC and military in charge of peace on the TR side. |

I'm sure that a significant portion do pick for the reasons you say, but there are still others, like myself, who chose based on story. If you don't care about the lore, why did you even enter this topic? I was even nice and specifically labelled it so that you didn't have to waste your oh so "precious" time on something you don't care about. "Herp derp, people are having nerdy discussions on a video game forum? Can't be having any of that now!" |
