Nexus Flyby as of 22/08/13

Published by Vanu Labs:

My thoughts:
A) Too much High Ground over facilities. I understand (still barely, but people got me convinced) the necessity for it in casual mode, but it simply won't cut it if it goes competitive.
B) According to the blacked out "facility connections" tickbox on the continental map, the map is going to be done in Hex. Once again, but vice versa - it's gonna work in competitive games perfectly, but main game will suffer
C) I'm not sure if WIP is the reason, but small cover is lacking drastically on all facilities there.

Lot of choke points and narrow passages, basically very infantry friendly. I wonder, since it is based off Esamir, if it will have the same short night cycle?

I disagree. From the looks of it, the passages are not so narrow so it's gonna boil down to tanks crossfiring through them, small cover is lacking, so there's no way to cover from fire around you, and there's only one base that doesn't have HG above it, so there's no way to hide from fire ABOVE you.

Apparently, the map is going to be mostly about beacons and galdrops. S-AMSes seem rather useless on this map.

Guess I am seeing Esamir in it and Nexus not having dome shields yet. Also ESF going to more a strafing role and down in those canyons will take a better pilot than me (not saying much). They already said they created the narrow passages to mitigate tanks with ability to have mine fields in a concentrated area etc.

If a tank goes through 'Striker Alley' it is not going last very long.

Look at the map. The points are going to be inside the building/Facility.

Tanks will be useless at that point.

Look's extremely infantry focused, Which is good.

Lot of black unused hexes on the map preview.. unless this is the MLG version as that was supposed to be smaller than the live version I think I recall?

I disagree. Even though I play allot as infantry I love the concept of vehicles in this game... or should I say the original concept of vehicles as it was back in the beginning of this year. To see how vehicles have been marginalized for each month for a long time now is very displeasing.... Feels like they want to turn this into a COD clone in that sens that it's a pure infantry only arena game play.

I played tanks all night last night. Maybe you should get a friend so you can trade tanks when one gets blown up.

That's a good question how they will introduce BI's to PTS. Didn't Higby say they were going to release the BI's as a set of 3 after Hossin? Will they put them on PTS individually as they finish them? Good question. They are working on Desolation now but who knows how they will go on PTS. Good question for Higglesworth.

"BI's will start as competitive maps, but later will be introduced to the main game"

Not a precise quote but that's what Higby said.

One month ago Higby said that MLG is 6-8 months away. Taking in account optimization + the fact that they are always waaaaaay too optimistic about content release dates - it will be Q2 2014 most likely.
If these things are true intercontinental lattice probably will be introduced in Q3 2014.

It still looks very WIP. They probably have yet to do a pass on cover and add in the shields and turrets. The out of bounds area is currently just a void and there seem to be many objects missing in the warpgate. They really only seem to have the layouts for the bases and how said bases are positioned finished. As for the lattice links, I assume they simply have yet to be implemented, but I'm not sure whether they really even matter with the number of bases and the roads connecting them.
