Not my opinion yours.
Recently I've been leading a bit and had the voice turned on. I used to lead quite a lot in ps1 but not until lately in ps2. So, I'd like to ask you what you think of the voice command channel? Do you have it turned on? Do you like it? Do you find it annoying? Do you find it useful? Thanks in advance........ |

I like it. Gives me a chance to talk with different leaders and if we have multiple platoons we can organize our selves better. I like being able to know where the heaviest action is, and to know where we should strike next to have the biggest effect. Plus if we need reinforcements, there usually is a squad just sitting around somewhere taking different territories that aren't necessary at that given moment. We all discuss whether or not moving to a continent would do us good or not. For example: An alert was going on on the Connery server to take Amerish. The Vanu had a 98% majority on that continent. We weren't even showing up on the population chart. This was at the beginning of the World Domination Pre-Series. So the commanders are on the comms asking whether or not we should participate. I bring up the domination pre-series, and that the NC and VS are already going in droves to Amerish. Making this an opportune time to take Esamir and Indar. So the majority of the commanders agreed to let the NC and VS fight it out. So we did. We also coordinated our attacks and had a lot of fun doing so.

Thanks. Now my opinion.
I have never heard any strategy discussed. Ever. What I do hear is an outfit needing help at a target and then another outfit saying they are responding. But strategy, especially in advance, nope. It seems to me that if voice command chat really did work properly then strategy would be the most important thing to discuss, even if it's at the simplistic level of deciding on continents to prioritise. And even people start to speak at once or someone goes all rage rage rage. It simlply makes you want to turn it off. As I've said all along, we need another system and voice may seem up to date (Higby) but if it doesn't perform the function required it's as much use as a chocolate fireguard. |

Basically all you can say in command chanel is we need help at X and y , and thats why the tactical level of coordination and tactics are mehhhhh sometimes .. Only invidual outfits , make some ( tactical push ) , and most others are not include since they are not aware of the strategies that will be use , its also a part of the reason why many outfit fails at doing awesome stuff , they are not well coordinate in a global strategies Last edited by Stew; 2013-09-21 at 09:55 AM. |

Command chat didnt need a voice option.
Techincaly it doesnt work. Most of it is too quiet or too loud or even garbled/too fast. (artificialy sped up). Realisticaly it doesnt work becuase people only use it to further there own aims. Expecting that if they shout the same thing 3 times people will rush to help. At the moment people press the push to talk button before engaging brain and end up saying more than they need to, they repeat stuff 3-4 times for no reason. Continental specific command chat like "NC tanks heading from the west towards the basin". Would work great and is all thats needed and did work in PS1 with "/sitrep". Organisation/pre-planning should be text based. What we did need was multiple levels of text chat and continental specific chat. Also a text chat system that worked 100% would help. IE being able to chat while dead, and without the letters you type being passed to the game itslef, sick of ejecting and throwing grenades while I have the chat window active. |
