use the machine gun for troops and other air vehicles. use the missiles for hitting armor (but not from a long distance though. it takes a while for the missile to travel).
about the steering, you have to actually drive one to get good at it. no tips on that.

People have been using this tactic against me when I am on their tail:

Hit AFB, but cut it off very quickly. It makes it look like you are trying to escape. The other guy will give chase, but if he isn't careful he will overshoot you and you will be on -his- tail.

the thing is, with that move you need a really good connect (ie no lag).

lag is killin folks right and left right now. stutter for a second, you're toast before you start moving again. Its getting better but when you're trying to aim anything at all, especially a moving target, a seconds hesitation is more than enough to cause a miss or worse.

I suggest that you turn off the inverted contorls. It just seems more intuative without the inverted controls. Oh yeah, and fly low when you can. That way fewer people will be able to see you comming.

I'd like to try some ambush tactics once i get the game. I noticed that some continents have pretty thick forest cover. You could probably hover just below the tops of the trees and pop out when ever some enemys come by.

One question. Do any of you reaver pilots hunt ANTS because the screens i've seen show them mostly ungaurded and the ANT is the most important vehicle on a continent because without it nothing works.

I don't see many vehicles at all, to tell you the truth. You could hunt around for ANTs, but that would be supremely boring, neh?

Anyway, bases are usually topped off before they get to critical levels. People start to guard ants when it becomes critical, so if you start destroying ants, pretty soon they'll start to have escorts.

Two words: Keep moving.

If you hover over a base like so many pilots do, you're dead meat. Infantry will chew you up, and any enemy Reaver around will be launching his rockets at your immobile craft the instant he sees you're just hovering there, trying to fight infantry. Not only that, but AV weapons will hit absolutely every time -- yes, even the Vanu Lancer.

Also, before you go to an enemy base, see if it's Hacked. If it's Hacked, nevermind, keep going there if you want. If it's not Hacked, check your map, and see if the Empire controlling that base also controls a (non-Hacked) Interlink Facility somewhere on the same continent. If they do, find another base, because that base's turrets will be automated, and they'll shoot you out of the sky when you go near.

I don't really think it would be boring. I guess some people just have shorter attention spans than others. It's not like you aren't likely to run into other enemys while looking for them.

if you want to jump out of your reaver in mid air fly as high as you can so they can not hit you and may not hit you

Some people don't play games to perform menial tasks of questionable absolute value, regardless of their attention span!

My advice from the time I spent is to learn to fire those rockets quickly, because it will take a good amount to destroy anything. And if you're really dedicated to the craft, be an engineer too, so you can boost to safety and repair your machine when necessary - and keep rocket rounds in your inventory to restock the trunk on such occasions.

ANT hunting is indeed pretty boring, mainly because they indeed cant fight back.

I've seen several enemy reavers hanging around warp bases just waiting for a freshly charged ANT to wander out and become an instant kill. I've also been on the receiving end of that. It sux.

The only tactic that can seem to save you in a case like that is head for the trees and hide out or abandon the vehicle altogether. Even then your chances in an ANT arent great.

No one is really doing the escort duty yet. Mostly the troops are composed of mavericks that just go out and look for hotspots or semi-squads that grab the nearest galaxy and pray their pilot isnt trying out the controls to see how high he can go before he boots the whole squad into the abyss.

its early yet, but god I've seen some dumb stuff goin on in there.
