Planetside Original 10 + BI

Dev's what would be the possibility of introducing the maps of the graphically updated original 10 Planetside continents and the Battle Islands into Planetside 2? HINT, HINT.

To the community, how would you guys feel about that?

I think you misunderstand what the developers are trying to do. The old maps were very simple. Forgelight is allowing them to make real maps with more complex layouts. Bringing the old Planetside continents 1:1 back would be a huge waste of time. I really like how they're reinventing them and just taking the basic biome styles.

I logged onto planetside 1 the other day and ran around the facilities just lol'ing and going "man, there's literally nothing around these bases." I forgot how barren most of the continents were.

have you guys talked about possibly adding a level editor to the game some day? Something that would allow players to create their own facilities using building block style components?

Instead of bringing them back make miniature islands out of them. Just scale em down quite a bit and allow a smaller number of players on them.

I would watch the comments you make. Some around here don't take lightly to criticism of PS1. They are liable to flip your parked Galaxy upside down when your not looking...err..umm..wait..you park like that now huh...?Well..those vandals will flip your Galaxy umm.. right side up?

The terrain on most current continent are a pain. For driving there are a lot of those sharp edged ridges plus the holes that you can fall into and find it difficult if not impossible to get out of.

Some of the bases are too difficult to approach and too easily become 'farmer' bases, HVAR, YAZATA and ATAR.

Cyssor links are bad, the LLU run fro Aja to Chuku in the top cormer and in the bottom is the bridge from Tore to Leza which is too long. The end result is predictable and sometimes week long stalemates.

The rest isn't bad. I think the key to a good continent is:
  • it doesn't promote static battles
  • the terrain provides encouragement to both ground troops and armour (air can take care of themselves)
  • it looks cool

Searhus, Forseral, Esamir are good continents, you could say Ish was too if you ignore the norther west corner.

I can see how you would think this from the game's current state, however I have had some of my most memorable PS1 fights in these "barren" areas. I can assure you that I have had a fight at damn near every square inch of every continent. I hope that you do not oversee the value of these "barren" areas as they were defiantly damn good for air battles at the very least.

So many confined themselves to base battles. They never really appreciated the whole map. These maps are great and i enjoyed every square inch of each cont. Well except for Esamir my least favorite.

I want Ceryshen back, simply because it would cause years of tears. Never has any continent been so universally loathed.

I remember when it went neutral for an event... and nobody showed up.

I think he was rather talking about the 'attention to detail' when it comes to landscape and various props and stuffs.

I got that feeling in March when I last resubbed. The game world was so empty, but it just echoed with the sounds of battles past. Even on an empty map, with Don's music playing, it was great just to stand and catch the memories of battles lost and won that were blowing on the wind.

The only parts of PS continents anyone ever really sees are the bases themselves, and those are all pretty much identical. Also, the scale would be wrong, and there is so much more possible with the new engine that I would prefer new, properly designed maps. I wouldn't mind using the biome themes and general base layout for inspiration, but so much would have to be changed that a map could never really be a port.

I'd rather see a few more continents in the PS2 style. 4 or 5 like Indar would probably give us more fighting space than we ever had in the first Planetside, and if they succeed in reaching the 2000 players per continent mark, 5 continents would provide 10,000 players per server, double what PS1's original 10 continents would allow.

Re: Planetside Original 10 + BI

Years ago we would place AMS's on the islands north of Hossin. A VS outfit would do the same then we would do a TR, VS outfit war offshore off Hossin. Other times we would just place AMS's offshore of the conts and we would use those areas as attack points. Some people appreciated battle away from the bases and found ways in planetside to make such battles enjoyable. Believe me no one was happier then me when I first heard Matt Higby say that every square inch of the continents will be contestable land. Man did I hear a chorus of angels, after wishing that for so many years. lol.
