Wow that is quite hilarious seeing that devolution.

Yeah please don't be like dice and make an idiotic minimap.

Come to think of it, the PS2 minimap that we saw wasn't particularly great.

The Minimap for PS1 was quite good though, I liked that one.

LOL, the BF3 one is too true.

It honestly looks like the current PS2 mini map is copy/paste... flesh that thing out!

I think this is mostly the fault of using Scaleform for the UI. It makes developers kind of lazy with the UI. Happened in Crysis 1/2 and a lot of recent games.

Not to mention the core problem in BF3 map - compare enlarged version with BF2 enlarged version. Epic fail on DICE part.

the ps1 minimap had some minor flaws, but overall it was really great and served its purpose perfectly.
please don´t devolute it and bring back all the functionality the old minimap had!

Personally, even after all this time, I've always preferred BF1942's minimap. The icons just seem so much clearer.

This! And notice how you can actually see where you are on the minimap because it shows the terrain detail? You can actually see the depth of geographic features on it.

Yeah it is the evolution (devolution) we see almost everywhere in the games industry.

Games are beeing made more and more console like and just simple.
"Every village idiot should have his fun"... so the games industry is afraid to even have something like a learning curve.

I all need on a minimap is enemy dots, and representation of features for scale. Directionality of the enemy dots helps.

BF3's map works incredibly well: It includes all of those features. It doesn't matter if it's photo-realistic. Topography/elevation isn't even important when you have a hud. Game-maps aren't that big. You can simply look at things. Holy shit, that's a hill right in front of me! It's not like you're off for a hike and need to measure distances.

A hud? You mean 3D crutch-spotting? That needs to be removed, and then detail on the map will mean something.

And BF3 truly failed with map sizes and design. Hopefully it's going to be fixed with Armored Kill. I doubt i.

exactly correct BF on PC has seriously gone backwards on PC.

Total consolized series now.

This is why Planetside 2 is gaining even more interests now.. So many BF PC vets are wanting a BF experience on PS2 etc.


pretty sad that older hud's on BF are 10x better than the newer glowworm style ones... but they gotta make things so simple an 8 year old can understand it on console so...
