That aspect is one of my favourites in gaming, trading and manufacturing is where the long term interest is at. With SWG SOE designed a truely unique and beautiful crafting system, why can't PS2 have something like that?
Say you take over a base, engineers can then rush out to deploy various mining machines. Later they can come back (if the base is still theres) and collect resources with which they can craft goods to trade with other players. For example what if a player brings an engineer 3 jackhammers, 2 starter motors and 4 armour scraps. The engineer takes this gear, adds some of his own mined resources and hads back a super-max kill suit +1 with ten uses or something. Not only would this introduce a very simple economy system (add credits and your set) BUT it would also give people FAR more incentive to capture and hold bases. Just think of the range of things that could be crafted; new armours, new weapons, new vehicles, bling for your ride (spoilers, rims, tinted windows etc.) new beards and other facal accessories, glasses, shoes, armour/clothing dyes, etc. etc. |

Giant Robots? On the topic of crafting and such, I'm pretty against it as it tends to force people to sit around and do nothing, or farm resources etc..etc.. which is bad for the actual purpose of the game. Which is death and destruction if you were wondering. Last edited by Logit; 2011-07-20 at 04:41 PM. |

To the OP, the title of this thread has a couple of Planetside swear words, so the skepticism here should be expected. Having said that, I really do want Planetside 2 to attract as many different kinds of gamers as possible. Basically, the more people that play Planetside, the better it is. So I'm not against having some sort of crafting to appeal to the players that really love it. Even with the example you gave, I'm not seeing how it will work. Maybe when we get a look at the 3 year plan, and the sandbox ideas that have the devs all excited, we may see something very similar to this. |

I feel like you're going to have a hard time getting people on board when you use words like "crafting."
Most, including myself, immediately relate this to WoW or Evercrack, which are 2 forms of MMO I hope Planetside takes zero ideas from...except the whole being big and successful part. |

Like many things in games, it could be something you choose to do instead of being forced to do it. Like nobody is forcing you to be a Gal pilot, but other people choose to be. Having Galaxies in the game don't alienate the people who don't want to use them.
