Last friday the tech support guy from Alienware came to my house to pop in a replacement 128mb Radeon 9700. If you havent been following, my $2000 Alienware machine suddenly got b0rked after 5 months of gaming perfection.
So anyway, the dude came to the house and installed it. He had called me up earlier and asked me to get the 3.4 cat drivers to install for while he was there. After I installed the drivers I went to the display screen and it turns out this guy has installed a 256mb Radeon 9800!!!!! I was stunned. I looked at the screen, looked at the guy (who was playing w my cat), and looked back at the screen. I made a quick decision, i didnt want to get billed $200. I told him he had made an error. His responce? An "oops" and a shrug, followed by "look, you dont mention it to tech support and I wont mention it to sales". All ive got to say on that is this: Alienware tech support guys have alot of techy knowledge, great manners, and they know how to hit a fukin blunt. God bless those fine men! Oh yeah, it was pretty dumb of him. But im wondering if maybe he was just playing with me and its standard policy for them to replace broken vid cards with the latest model.
128mb Radeon 9700 was the newest/best video card available when i purchased my A-51, so maybe they just replaced it with the current newest/best video card. Either way, i dont regret smokin him up. He was a cool guy and even gave me some tips on what skills to put points into on NeverWinter Nights (great game, just got it last week) |
