Brainstorming: VS MAX Special Abilities

So we've been told that the devs have yet to decide on a suitable replacement for the jumpjets that the VS MAX had. To me this sounds like a good opportunity to shape the direction of the game a bit and to that end the purpose of this thread is to brainstorm ideas for new abilities.

The VS theme is maneuverability and flexibility, but you need not adhere strictly to that since we're just getting as much as we can on the table.

Give them a strafe boost/forward boost/quick slash like Armored Core melee weapons. But don't allow them to jumpjet with it.

Badass huh?

I understood all MAXs will be the same in PlanetSide2 except different weapons. AMIRITE?

I favor fair play in PS2 probably more than anything and all suggestions I make are margined by that notion of fairness. To me it only seems right that TR, NC and VS are equal by not having their own unique special ability.

You are not rite. While all MAXes will have access to some common pool upgrades and modules, they are also expected to have Empire Specific modules including a special ability.

This is not a criticism of you, but that is a vision of blandness.

PS1 was amazing because it was SO different. Yet it couldn't get the massive playerbase to stay.

Just seems odd that Higby et al have decided that the way to counter that is to win audience by making PS2 a cookie-cutter game.

Maybe they/you are right. I doubt it, but maybe I'm wrong. Time will tell, I guess.

Maybe the MAX this time around won't even be bothered with special abilities. PS1 VS MAX was way over powered and could practically warp up and down. It should have never been able to fire it's weapons while flying. And the TR MAX was just a sitting duck. I hope the MAX doesn't do any of that shit in PS2.

The fuck? Having diversity in the game is good. It adds to replay-ability and gives the empires more patriotism. It allows players to find more exciting ways to play the game!

Why would you just want to remove everything instead of finding ways to improve what was a good thing in the first place?

The only thing I can come up with off the top of my head is to give em the Spiker charge up.

Let em hold down the trigger and unleash a single devastating blast?

Dash ability as some have suggested.

Blink ability a la SC2.

This is more of a joke, I really doubt they would ever implement this. Even if they did, it would be buggy and unbalanced as all hell. Would still be cool though

Hm, that's a curious one. They'd be choosing how much damage they wanted to deal based on the situation, so that should fit nicely as "flexibility".

Like Samus? yeah good idea, I agree that. that would be a good special ability for VS MAX.

Diversity is good. But not at the cost of balance.

Agreed! Besides, it was mostly fair in PS1 from what I saw, and it seems as if it would be even more fair now, what with the whole class with jump jets.

I hate the idea of removing the special abilities. That would just make MAXes the same as any other class, but slower and with more health.

Besides, they already designed the VS max with wings xD

Lightbulb Inertia Stabilizing

Inertia Stablizing: The air-tightened auto-robotic interior external bionic as part of all MAXs regulates the MAX user's movement speed and strength by simply alleviating their manoeuvres against the weight of the armor. It does not improve a person - it only alleviates the weight. The VS MAX is most well-designed for robust defence and complexity of Nanite constructions, for light-weight comfort and for its unique additional aerobic modulation.
  • The shoulder modules, back module and feet modules are the Inertia Stabilizers with the well-balanced design allowing for the VS MAX to move around freely and powerfully whilst stationary, moving fast or free-falling.
How's about that?
