PlanetSide needs more

So PlanetSide has a variety of weapons and vehicles. So do a lot of games. True it will be on a scale yet known to first person shooters but what else? Other than that what is new?

PS needs artillery units. It needs Ghost squads (Starcraft) to infiltrate enemy territory and strike high dollar targets. Or maybe mobile units that could do the same.

I see all these war games but I never see artillery anywhere. Artillery and air strikes are the keys to winning todays wars.

yeah, arty would most definitely be awsome.

it would also be awsome if we could get some type of high speed strike aircraft or bomber to help soften a position before an assault, or to take care of a troublesome outpost that is standing in the way.

now wouldnt that be cool?

while artillery and bombers are cool and i would have been for putting them in the game earlier in the development, there are two problems now that make me say NO.

1.) they'll mess up the game balance, maybe not permanantly, but enough to push back the release date a few months, something that will piss off me and i'm sure many other people immensley (sp?.)

2.) there will be a shitload of people who complain about how cheap it is and badmouth planetside, effectively stifling the flow of noobs and keeping the total number of players low.

bf1942 has a fairly effective use of artillery built in. mobile artillery and those mounted on ships with scouts able to target and call for strikes adds an element not often found in these games.

so...short version. I wholeheartedly agree.

yeah, but BFs arty system is a little vague and somewhat cumbersome to use. maybe something like a "cone" of fire or a zone that show up on ur hud that u should fire into. that would be cool.

man, i sure would love a high speed strike fighter/bomber in this game. going on deep strike missions to help stifle the outflow of vehicles or communications from a particularly troublesome base.
then think about teaming them up with a sniper who can call his buddy in the strike fighter in once he spots a target behind enemy lines.
the fighter runs in very low and fast, u dont hear him until he passes u and his rockets are slamming into ur position and his bombs are falling on ur head.

good god, that would be so sweet.

they could add this all in later as extra content, which im fairly sure they will add

The T2 bomber was by far my favorite vehicle. It was the single most devastating vehicle there was. If you could hear the bombs coming down you were probably about to die.

Artillery would fit in pretty well with this game. Just set it up like T1 style. Have a scout using a targeting laser to guide an artillery units fire. The artillery units could have medium armor and no defenses.

They have a "Ghost" type unit, but they aren't going to be nukeing anything.

In theroy someone in a stealth suit could single handedly break into a base, hack into it's systems, and take it over. The problem is that once you did that you'd have a base full of enemies in your new base and they'd be pretty pissed off.

So just like a ghost in SC you'd be dead pretty quickly.

If only there were automated defense systems.

How about sending a few squads into the base. Take it over... ninja style.

In Tanarus, another sony game, the big tank would hide and shoot shells like artillary. These people were usually n00bs who had no skill. Hiding and shooting the enemy long range is kinda cheap. Once you got to the big tank, you would be nearly dead and he could easily finish you off. In PS 1 or 2 shells could posibly take out infantry. No fun.
I like the idea but it would mess up the game balance.

Including a bomber like Tribes would be acceptable, anything with more speed would make it overpowered.

Artellry however i agree is cheap. PS is focusing on confilts and combats not hiding and shelling from afar.

Well it really depends on how good your defense is. It also depends on how powerful you make the artillery.

Artillery would have a lot of good uses though. What better way could you hit an entrenched force and weaken their position? It could also double as a defensive unit weakening and destroying incoming tanks and other ground units.

People would just have to make sure artillery couldn't get within firing range.

I think what they should look at, if they're going to use artillery, is for a fairly high refire delay as well as giant booms, think of artillery... heck.. I live in California near Camp Pendleton... near... well... let's see... really something like 10-20 miles from the front gate, and when they're running arty practice... I hear the booms very nicely enough that they sometimes shake unstable objects.

I like the way they did the artilery in BF1942.

High Yeild, Low Armor, Low Rate of Fire, and to be effective you need 3 people. One to drive, one to fire, and one to play forward spotter.

If it's not in there now, it's something we can hope for in an expansion.

Hmm... this almost looks like arty...

here

I know it's just a tank, but... maybe that's what they're going to do with the heavy tanks, make them arty.
