PSU Server Move

Since opening our doors in early September we have been on quite a roller coaster ride. Our site has almost quadrupled in its bandwidth needs; our forums are expanding with more and more members every week in fact there is someone posting almost 24 hours a day. With the AGN down the road, and a ton of new features in planning and production and a highly skilled staff, this is only the beginning of our ride. PS hasn�t even come out yet! With this said, on to my announcement.

The bandwidth costs on my current host are skyrocketing. Even with the donations of our members it will be tough to continue paying the bill as we expand more and more. So I have done some research, and PSU is moving servers. We will be on our own, dedicated 2.2GHz server, the server is unmetered, what this means is we do not get charged more for the bandwidth we use. This will enable us to offer more services to everyone who visits. These services include live shout cast streams, FREE outfit hosting on our servers, more downloads and user interactive content. More details on new features will come soon.

This move will take place sometime the week of January 5-11th, most likely Wednesday. During this time there will be a forum and IRC downtime of approx 30-45 minutes, while the data is moved, and server records are updated. I will be posting more details as we get closer to transfer.

FYI, we will be going with XGamer.net hosting.

Just out of interest, much bandwidth do you use? You don't seem to have that many huge files on here so you must have an absolute shedload of visitors to use so much bandwidth.

EDIT: Never mind, looks like you went with the 1U Server - Single Processor Colocation plan. Nice.. dude that's a lot of cash, hope you're all chipping in! Make SmokeJumper pay, it's his fault for producing such a kick ass game anyway! Bastage!

It's funny yall are moving, our site is moving in a week or so, from the host aletiahosting.com to readyhosting.com crazy differences, same price. Good Luck!

Dedicated Private It is being built for me as we speak, we pushed 140gb last month, and it will only grow. Its best to do this now, before more and more people get turned on to the site by beta, and release.

Also, its always been a goal of mine to offer free hosting and forums to outfits, I want to provide that service. This will enable me to have more control, and offer the hosting without fear of extra fee's

Forums? How are you going to pull that off without licensing issues? I know Infopop and Jelsoft are like Nazi's with there software. Unless you're going with a free one like YaBB or something. Personally I love the new YaBB with the Map feature. Check it out on this guys site..

With YaBB you can also integrate an IRC channel, and all your news on the main front page. It's what we'll be switching to, and best of all it's all free. My $.02.

He means outfits will get a forum here on PSU... just like there is a "Tech Forum" and a "Recruiting Forum" there can be a "[Clan Name Here] Forum"

Its easy to pull off, I just create a subforum off these forums for the team. I dont plan on running 80 copies of vbulletin.
