Does Sony include the most recent updates on any PlanetSide disc's they're now making for shipping?
Or if I bought the game, I'd have to d/l every patch they've had so far? I'd think that adding the patches while making the disc's would make more sense. Rather then buying the game in a year, and haveing to d/l a GIG of patches. |

What do you mean "all" the patches?
You will only patch once, Reverant. Basically what the patch server does is not download individual packages, such as would happen with tribes or half-life, but it checks the contents of your planetside directory. Any files which are different (or missing) to the ones it expects to be there, it will re-download them. Therefore, you could have a totally empty planetside directory, and the patch server would simply download the whole lot to your hard disk (which is what happened in closed beta, and we had to sit thru 2 gigs worth of downloading ) |

No, they do not update disks frequently as new patches are released. When you purchase a retail version you get 1.0 and many, many patches to download. This can be a real drag for those without broadband.
They might update them later on when many gigs of patches have arrived, or perhaps when a game of the year version or platinum version or something like that arrives. I could see them updating bi-yearly or something similar, but frankly it would be too much work to update the retail disks every time a new patch arrives. You'd have twenty different versions sitting on the shelf and you wouldn't know which one has the newer version.

They should just load up their patches to their site. It'd be a hell of a lot faster for everyone if they could just download and run a little program that'd do everything on their computer instead of on the net.

There are many, many patches available for download in one sitting, but that does not mean there is just one patch.
http://www.planetside-universe.com/patchnotes.php Each one of those is a patch. There are many of them. Regardless if the Skyguard and Liberator patch are compressed into one sitting, they are still two different patches. My point was, because there are so many patches, the filesize is very large. Thanks for the 'briming over with wrongability...' comment though, boy that must have given you your needed ego boost for the night.
