I bought Rainbow Six Rougue Spear Platinum Pack Edition, and The Thing.
I don't want to open the celophane wrapers. I'm going to give one to my Dad (50 year old Gamer? Yes, they exist), but I don't know which. He loves Medal of Honour and Wolfeinstein's style of play, and doesnt really care for stratedgy kind of crap much. He likes to just load up, kill stuff, then switch off. He doesnt play online, and he's not a serious gamer. Which would you recommend I give him?

Good God man, return The Thing if you possibly can.
Possible replacement titles would include Call of Duty, The Black Mirror (a good dad type game) and Beyond Good and Evil. But as for The Thing, it starts out looking great and turns to shit right quick.

It bills itself as a thrilling challenge, until you realize that your squad turns into the Thing based purely on random chance.
For example, you save the game, and then go down a corridor. Your squaddie turns into the Thing. Then you restore the game and go down the corridor and he's just fine. There's absolutely no correlation between your guys getting infected and anything that actually happens in the game. It's pure bullshit. But if someone didn't care about strategy or fairness, it would be semi-decent eye-candy. If it was real cheap, it's ok. I bought (and subsequently returned) it when it was $50 and I was mighty glad to get my money back.

Kudos on your free post, Doppler. Apparently you care just enough to buff your post-count by one.

i played rainbow Six Rouge Squadron ONCE and thought it was more for the hard core gamer, and in my opionon both are bad for the as u say "load up, kill stuff, then switch off", i would suggest maybe Halo (PC) or maybe wait for UT 2004 or get him UT 2003 both very shoot first think later games except for maybe Halo.

The engine is shite, sure, its got copious amounts of eye candy, but I could pour tar down the side of a building and that would run faster and smoother. Even top spec systems struggle to run it. To be honest, The games just a run and gunner, blow stuff up, move on. The missions are pretty linear, and the lack of varience in the buildings is as bad as planetside, but at least its done for a purpose in ps. As Johnny the human torch would say - "Flame On"
