.JPG Problem

Ok, whenever I go to save a picture (JPEG), I manually have to type in the name I want the JPEG and also, I have to manually type in the .JPG ending or it just comes up as "FILE". It's set where it says "Save File Type As: JPEG", so I shouldn't have to type .JPG after every pic I save!

Any suggestions? A lot of times i forget and have to go to the pics directory and rename it...it gets really annoying...

In IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, and delete your Temporary Internet Files. That fixes a slightly different problem, but see if that helps this problem too.

If that does nothing Microsoft recommends doing as follows:

Close everything,
Start/Run
Regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll

If still no soup, try this:

Navigate to:
HKEY CLASSES ROOT \ .jpeg (That's dot jpeg)
In the right side window, for Content Type, it should say "image/jpeg".
If it doesn't say this, double click the entry in the right side window
and change the value data there.

While you are there, check this value.
HKEY CLASSES ROOT \ .jpg
In the right side window, for Content Type, it should also have
"image/jpeg".
If it doesn't say this, double click the entry in the right side window
and change the value data there.

Reboot, try again.

Please let me know if this fixes you up.

Heh, it worked, but I remember deleting my temps before and this was still happening...which leads me to believe it will come back. Any ideas on what sets it to do that?

Without getting too techinical if your temporary internet files fill up the amount you have allocated (back where you were, but hit Settings) that is one of the things that happens. There is no way to automatically delete the temporary files as you get close to filling them up. You could design a script to do it, but that would be more trouble then it is worth...

Just delete those every time you start having problems.

Thats the answer I have got from both Microsoft MVPs, and from the Microsoft newsgroups support reps aswell.

IE uses the TIF to store images, then when you want to save them it uses that space again to convert the picture to the different types available. (such as jpg) If there is no space available it goofs up.

Same thing has happened to me, clear the TIF, problem solved.

So your saying set it 2 around 5 gigs and itll take longer? Why has this never happened 2 any of my other comps? Even my old 6gig HD comp never had this problem, and it only stored like 100mbs!

I have no clue, but thats the "official" word, straight from Microsoft. The solution works.

In theory the larger you set your TIF, the longer it should take. If you really want to test it out, set your TIF to something like 20 megs, then check "Every visit to the page." That should not store much in your TIF, just pictures.

If it is really a big concern to you, set your TIF to one or two gigs, then make a script that will delete all of your TIFs and stick it in your Startup folder.

Ahh!!! I KNEW IT! I shutdown my pc last night, and when i booted it back up and tried to save a picture, it still did the ".FILE" thing. Deleting the TIF's didn't help this time >_<. Besides, i checked them and I am only at like 80mb and my cap is around 650mb!

Therefore I proved the whole TIF thing wrong and need assistance...again...

BTW: Sorry about the double post but this one was a totally dif topic than the last one @_@
