Is third-person view a cheap way to cheat your opponents of their fairly-earned victory?

How the hell should I know. You tell me.

No. Since we don't have the ability to lean out around corners, using the loose camera in 3rd person view is the only way to be sneaky and play tactically.

I was gonna say that it's a bit unfair, but that's a good point.

All I'm saying is that a third-person view assumes that each soldier has a cambot hovering a few meters behind his or her skull, ready to relay visual data at a keystroke.

I for one would prefer that they implement lean (but not a lean where you could fire while leaning) and utterly forbid third-person camera views.

I guess I might lean too far towards realism. I know this is just a game, but third-person view is such a terrible stretch.

It's fine IMO. The only people i ever see using it are NC at the top of a tower with their JH out.

Ever try driving in a cramped space in first person? Imagine how much more grief a Mag driver for instance would get if he couldn't see to the sides of his vehicle when he is trying to navigate a CY.
And in the case of Infantry, it's nice to be able to see around you to know when that noob in a Mag is coming at you.
Third person just gives the peripheral vision that first person lacks. It's not like you can shoot anything in third person, you still have to switch back to first to get your crosshairs on them.

3rd person on vehicles is necessary. If you actually waste your time 3rd personing every corner, you have a problem. Its not worth it. For the 1 time that you save your ass, you coulda respawned like 5 times and killed twice as many people. It only really pays off in towers.

I 3rd person all the time with my infil when I'm crouch walking through a bunch of enemies. Always good to see if some guy that you just walked past decided to DL the area real quick. Better to take your chances surging through their number than be shot in the back while crouched.

When attacking a tower from the top down, it's very helpful. When sneaking around as an infiltrator, it's essential. When defending pretty much anything indoors, it gives you some peripheral vision and a slightly improved chance at not getting surged before your computer even rendered the door opening. As Majik pointed out, you can't aim for shit with it on, especially when you're actually looking around a corner because you're staring face first into the wall! If anyone other than the absurdly paranoid would call that an exploit, then I guess firing in short bursts to control your CoF must be an exploit too.

This games not even meant to be realistic, try playing Rainbow Six:Rogue Spear, not only does it have 3rd person but you also get a crosshair.

I switch between first and third person view so much Usually when I'm in a Base (for the first time) Hacking/Healing up I got to third person, Other times when i'm on stair's i go to 3 person while I'm moving up them

Sorry, but that is an ignorant statement. I guarantee any grunt player (TR/NC/VS) worth a damn uses that strategy.

The third person view is fine imo, it's not like you can aim in it

Actually no its not. This strategy primarily developed because of the oneshot kill afforded the Jackhammer secondary mode. If your running up a tower with HA, you are certainly ready to shoot anyone you see instantly and are also expecting to see enemies around every turn. Any guy waiting in third person has the same TTK as you do when he pops out... except if you are facing a Jackhammer tripple round. An alt blast from a JH is the greatest TTK in the game that isnt MAX/Vehicle so they benifit from doing that more than the other 2 empires.

Once again I still cant fucking understand why NC has an alt fire mode for thier HA and no one else does. I would love to hear a Dev try to explain that one
