Theyre unplugging my DSL tonight. Tomorrow, and friday I have to go without intarweb. Then, Friday, I have cable internet. Figures that my last night of intarwebby goodness is exhausted on me studying for a chem test. Fucking chemistry.

It depends what DSL package you have and what cable package you have... My old Comcast account used to be capped at 120kbp/s upstream and 1.6mbp/s, not bad... But then I moved to WideOpenWest cable, that is capped at 750kbp/s upstream and a whopping 4mbp/s downstream.
But I was over at a coworker's house who lives less then 200 feet from his phone C/O, and I was downloading at 780K/sec, or 6.2mbp/s. Still pidely compared to the Korean speeds, but downloading full length smut at 6.2 mbp/s is a hell of a lot nicer then when I used to pay to be part of a BBS that was several states away, but had great pr0n... Downloading crappy, low quality GIF porn at 14.4kbp/s while having to pay for long distance AND paying for the service REALLY sucks... Or when I downloaded an "evaluation" version of Tribes I from an IRC channel over a 36.6 modem... 90 megs took over nine hours to download with wait times in IRC and such. Now I get pissed when I don't get more then 350K/sec on downloading anything. |

You can pay an equal amount for DSL with speeds the same as Cable.
In an uncapped state, my cable modem gets somewhere around 8 mbp/s, which is around 1 MB/s for download and somewhere close to 350 KB/s upload. in Regular state I get about 500 KB/s down and 150 KB/s up. Also depends where you live. I have a friend that works for SBC, he lives within half a mile of thier main offices, and has a 100Mbp/s link to the internet =p. He downloads from Microsoft around 6.5 MBp/s
