Life beyond CR5/BR20
Gday all. The battlefields have seen many a player maxed out at CR5. When the time comes that SOE see fit to extend this rank ceiling further, one possible senario I foresee is we will yet again hit another ceiling thus 'trodding down a never ending cycle of BR/CR level-ups'. Granted, all CR5's have shared their identical commanding abilities throughout their career. Atleast up to now. Why not now make CR5 the crossroad where, for further level-ups, the Commander now has to choose which 'one' of several paths or fields to specialise in, each with its own sub tech tree of futher related level-ups. (Simular concept for vehicle/weapon/armor class certs) CR5 --> CR6 ..............+1 --> sub1 --> sub2 --> sub3 ..............+2 --> sub1 --> sub2 --> sub3 ..............+3 --> sub1 --> sub2 --> sub3 Naturally you can 'unlearn' your chosen field (or tech tree if you like) to follow a different specilisation but at the cost of loosing all sub-related abilities learnt of course. Primarily I can foresee this aleviating the need for an ongoing 'stale model' levelup structure. Secondarily, providing for want of a better description, a more 'random or dynamic' battlefield experience where commanders who possess their chosen neiche, use of varied tactics akin to that particular specialisation. I could no doubt safely say this would add extra character immersion from simply offering more choices in our character building - adding to the "role playing" aspect this game so subtley yet beutifully incorporates. As for life beyond BR20, who knows =) Anyway, thats my two-cents and would like to appologise in advance should this idea already be kicking around. Thanks!

There is no plan currently to increase the level caps. BR20/CR5 is probably where it's going to be, so far as the Devs are willing to let on.
Now, there are some "post-BR20" abilities that are under discussion to be enhancements to certs you already have if you attain the "elite" status of BR20. Lock-on missiles for a Reaver, for instance (assuming they fix lock-on first). I thought I saw Smoke discussing "command atrophy" where if you didn't lead for extended amounts of playtime, your CEP would be reduced. This in turn would reduce the number of CR5s out there because there can only be a finite number of SLs at one time. I personally don't like the idea due to the fact that it will be impossible for people to advance their own CRs if you have every CR5 on the world trying to keep a full squad so they can do OSes. There needs to be something for the CRs, but damned if I can think of what. The specialist idea is a little too vague for me to get on board with right now, because I can't really think of what you mean to get an idea for abilities. What I'm coming up with is rather silly (a broadcast that would go out to anyone with a pilot cert on the continent for example...actually, I'd like that better than everyone getting the spam meant for pilots...in general...nevermind special abilities), so I don't know if that's just my own limited imagination. What kind of things were you thinking of? |

Well some of the past PSU dev talks havve saiud they will DEFINATELY eventually do something farther than BR20 and CR5. This had been confirmed at least once, but they are still thinking on how to do any of this. They had thought of those adv certs that just improve certain things as well as some other stuff. I cannot remember the specifics, but its in a dev talk maybe 3 ago?

I think sub-units and specializations for CR5's is a really good idea. Maybe even make it Outfit specific (put more emphasis on outfits) with the top CR5's of the top outfits (i.e most organized) having the most control globaly (eliminates CR5 Global Spam bickering to some extent).
As for BR20's...well once your at that point, your an elite status. Maybe you should have some elite abilities and privlages. What the hell, lets throw in something insane. Introduce the effects of age. Longer you play BR20 (game time), age starts to hinder some of your abilities (can't run as fast, less health, eyesight gets poor, bladder problems...ok maybe not bladder problems). |

I don't really see any need for advancement beyond 20/5.
I mean, this isn't an RPG. Higher BR just gives you more choices and ways to fight. If people can play CS and BF1942 with no real reward out of it(no matter how much you play, you're not going to be a higher "level" or have more exp than the next guy), why can't PS? |
