NFL Cardinal player, Pat Tillman, dead.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Pat Tillman was killed in Afghanistan after walking away from a multimillion-dollar NFL contract to join the Army Rangers, U.S. officials said Friday.

Tillman, who served with the Army Rangers, was 27.

My heart goes out to his family, to his wife. This man was a hero, turned down 3 million to fight for his country, the stardom of the NFL, for his country.

yes i heard today....

he gave up a 3 million dollar contract to go serve his country for 18,000 dollars a year...he was rich and lived a lavish lifestyle but he wanted to serve his country...a true spirit and warrior...

Another team offered him 9 million. Big deal.

Where are the mourners for every other soldier and private military company worker who died in combat? When do they make the front headlines? Sure it's a tragedy, but it's heightened by the fact that he was a former "celebrity".

When you all cry for the average Joe Snuffy then I'll be impressed. The guy was a soldier. He volunteered to do what few others could do. I doubt he'd want a big fanfare- that's what soldiers do.

Here is a great example of fighting for what you believe in. A large amount of people in the military join because they don't have a lot of options, or for school, or to learn a trade..but this man was set! He didn't need the job, or school, and was making so much damn money that he wouldn't have had to work a normal job for the rest of his life. And what did he do? He decided that he wanted to fight for his country, and he did. He fought and died. He didn't just talk about it like so many celebrities do, he actually did it. That alone gets every bit of my respect.

But let's not forget all of the other men and women who have died. The ones who barely get a mention on the news. They deserve our admiration as well. They may have not made the monetary sacrifice, but they sure as hell made the ultimate sacrifice.

So here's to all the Airmen, Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and their families. Past, present and future.

God bless. And thanks. Thanks for fighting to keep us safe, for dying for the freedoms that far too many take for granted, for making this country the best in the world, and for protecting our children and grandchildren's way of life.

I cry for him like every other soldier, he is nothing different. (dont take it that i dont care, i feel nothing more for him than any other soldier that has died.)

I pray for every soldier, but this is one of those extremem examples of one man with everything as it were, money, fame... turned it down for something bigger then himself. That is.. worth the special attention.

what Mr V said, when a man can choose serving his nation over himself, and turn down 3.6 million every few years, and instead only be paid something much, much less and fight for his country, it shows a real good american. im not saying that all other soldiers arnt good americans, but i dought many could drop their family, their several million dollar career and go fight for their country.

Indeed, he is a cut above the rest. A man with balls of steel and a heart of gold. Something we all should strive for and instill in our children
