Internet Law

I could use some help:

I'm teaching an internet law class at a college this summer. I found the main text book that I'm going to use, but 'm trying to track down some other books. The reason for the other books is for my own knowledge to supplement my lectures. If there is anything you've read that is interesting or informative I would really appreciate if you could post some info.

Try Lawrence Lessig, Code and Other Laws of Cyberspace. Lessig is a fascinating writer and the issues he raises in his first book would supplement your class well (copyright, internet anonymity, government regulation through computer code - you'll have to read the book). [Lessig is a Harvard professor that recently argued the Eldred case before the Supreme Court.]

Court cases can also illustrate principles. If you give out cases, you might want to summarize them, or have the class summarize them.

Some good cases:
American Civil Liberties Union v. Reno, 521 U.S. 844 (1997) [Challenge to the Communication Decency Act.]
Doe v. 2TheMart.com, Inc., 140 F.Supp.2d 1088 (W.D. Wash. 2001) [Court upheld the right for an Internet user to speak anonymously (and critically) of a corporation.]
Eldred v. Ashcroft, 537 U.S. ___ (2003) [Legal challenge to the copyright extension act; the "Mickey Mouse" law.]

There are so many facets of law as it pertains to the internet (taxation, copyright, speech, contract law, etc.) that I can't really give you more than a shot in the dark. Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks Vis I'll check out that book.

The text book I'm using is Internet Law and Policy. It looks like a pretty good book. When I teach (I've taught 4 different law courses in college - torts, crim, family and wills) I like to supplement my teaching a lot. I always hated professors who only taught what was in the text.

That book sounds like a good place to go.

And I did google, but there were no real good sites that had what I was looking for.
