Please excuse my ineptitude,
But what does this mean? So you set a target framerate, and whenever you dip below that framerate, your system is forced to reach the target framerate? How is it able to do that? What sort of effects would it have on your system? How do we know if we've set the target too high or too low? What happens when your system cannot reach the target framerate? |

It lowers the amount of detail on objects depending on performance needs. Say, you wanted a fairly decent FPS (30,) and your computer was complete shite. What ti would do is make the objects that you see appear less pretty. The better your machine, the farther the distance away from you the system starts lowering your detail settings. There hasnt been an option for this before, and this is one of the many reasons I plan on coming back within the enxt week or so.

So does it take over management of certain options like viewing distance, texture detail, mesh detail, and other options of similar nature?
Edit: if it does do this, does the player still have the option of setting some options (like viewing distance) and keeping it there without the game changing it every now and then when your fps changes. Last edited by Meursault00; 2004-07-23 at 03:07 AM. |

Right,
So does this mean that if you set your FPS to 60 with high detail, even if you know you can get 100fps with high detail then it'll stick at 60? Or does it mean that you'll have high detail as long as your fps stays over 60 and then the game will automatically scale it down if your fps goes below 60? have I just confused myself? does anyone else get the feeling that this may cause FPS drops in itself, cos if your client has to start doing extra calculations to change the details if your FPS drops below target then it may hit your game's performance? Dym ok, i've been at work for 9 hours and am not entirely thinking straight |
