Well, my microphone headset has finally crapped out. For a while now I've been using only the microphone part, due to the fact that both earpieces have broken off and are dangling by wires, not to mention the fact that the headset wire has been cut slightly and copper wires are sticking out everywhere. Luckily, the wire that the microphone uses hasn't been messed up (even though the part where the microphone mounts to the headset has broken off), so it was working fine. Until yesterday. Yesterday, it seems that my headset finally met its doom. The wire that the microphone uses was also somehow stripped and it no longer works.
So, I went to Wal-Mart today and found a $15 behind-the-head headset with microphone, but I didn't buy it because I was hoping to find something with JUST a microphone. I don't use the headphone part at all, so I'm just looking for a microphone. So, I went to www.plantronics.com because I've heard they're good with PC mics and headsets. They have some nice looking stuff, but none of it is what I'm looking for. So, I went to www.logitech.com and browsed their small selection, and they don't have what I'm looking for either. I'm looking for a behind-the-head microphone. Pretty much this without the headphone part. Just a microphone. Any ideas? Also, anyone have any suggestions? Should I just break down and buy the full headset and not use the headphones? (I don't use the headphones because I have a Soundblaster 5.1 Live! system running.) I'm hoping to maybe have something by the end of the day. It might not work out that way, though...

According to PC Zone (UK):
Best: Logitech Extreme PC Gaming Headset (bought myself one, but it hasn't arrived yet) Recommended: Creative Labs HS300 Also Consider: Plantronics Audio 90 I personally never use the headphones (my line out is used by my 5.1 speakers) but they make the headset comfortable. Table top microphones are good but headsets are better imo. Last edited by Lartnev; 2004-09-04 at 11:07 AM. |

I agree, I don't like table top mics. They get in the way and sometimes don't work as well.
The only reason I don't want to get a headset with headphones is the fact that 1) after a while they start hurting (if the pressure is wrong..) and 2) it can muffle the sounds coming from my speakers. I do like the looks of that logitech one you mentioned, and it's not that expensive, either.

The Audio 90 is nice to start...
But I'm on my second one, and on both occasions with them, some circuitry burned out so I have to jiggle and tape the wire in order to make the sound come out of the right earphone. I'm going with a Stenheiser PC150 at the reccomendation of a friend.
