RC = Release Candidate, Vivendi (the publisher) reviews and tests the RC and if everything is good then the game goes gold and you can buy Half Life 2 about 2 weeks after it goes gold. Going Gold means Valve got a copy of the gold master disks that also got sent to manufacturing. The RC isnt always perfect but it means that the game is essentially done. Just bug fixes now, if the RC isnt approved Vivendi will tell Valve why and the bugs will be fixed and you will have your HL2 soon enough.

i think Valve is going to get bombed while the diskcs are in transit, and uppon hearing the news the car will crash and the disks will be melted by the burning wreck

I think that the delivery guy is going to be carrying the disks to their destination and trip and drop them down a sewer grate where they'll land in a puddle of toxic ooze that turns all the disks into Teenage Mutant Ninja Data Storage Devices!
