I dont know how many of you guys have seen/herd/played this game but I have gotta tell ya, its a blast! (Pun intended) Navy Field is a MMORPG where you dont level up at all but your crew does. The higher the crew gets the more ships and weapons you get. Fighting in battles as a team makes you win, you can lose all your ships but if your team worked together then you may still win the battle.
www.navyfield.com It IS a beta, the game has its quirks, give it some time. The EVE crew latched their claws into a ship to ship combat game REALLY fast. |

I've got a USS Fletcher DD with 5 5" 54 cal Mark 16 guns mounted on it, and a lvl 17 crew. Awesome for long range sniping, does pretty damn nice damage as well. My ship name is "Punisher" (yeah I should probably give it a U.S.S) and I play as my brother's handle "Knightwyvern" in case you see me in game.
Navy Field is a pretty fun game, but it definately has its share of bugs, clunky control style, and problems with exp and cash gain. The beta is definately worth playing, its pretty cool once you get used to it (and learn to deal with its flaws). Edit- a few other control tips, Right-click sets destination for your ship, F5 brings up a (incomplete) keyboard guide, Ctrl toggles fast turret turning on/off if you quickly need to spin them around, "N" toggles narrow or wide spread torpedo launch, "H" toggles fast or slow torpedos, "Y" toggles primary or secondary ammo types for your guns (good to have a long range ammo and a short range ammo like APC/HE light or HE heavy/HE light), F2 toggles team chat on/off, F4 switches firing modes from Gradual (1 gun fires at a time) to Simultaneous (all guns fire, usually use that one) or Maximum Velocity mode which is supposedly best used if you're firing APC rounds. F7 toggles frigate auto-aiming on/off (which aligns your guns for you), F11 toggles 3D mode on/off which allows you to scroll your mouse wheel and zoom in and out, which is handy if you're fighting long range. I'm sure theres stuff I missed but those are important to know. Note that having an auto FCS will aim for you, but is pretty inaccurate. Good if you're just starting out, but you'll want to get an Aiming FCS and practice if you really want to be able to compete in PvP. Last edited by Electrofreak; 2005-03-14 at 07:07 AM. |
