I do not hunt but I have taken my hunter's safety course and based on what ive read. In the interest of safety, I think that they are both somewhat at fault, Whittington split from the party without announcing it, and Cheney was not aware that whittington was beyond his target. But it ultimately the blame falls upon the triggerman.
That has to sting like a son of a bitch, he is extremely lucky that one of those pellets did not hit him in the eye. I cannot wait for the daily show to come on. Last edited by Biohazzard56; 2006-02-13 at 04:26 PM. |

If you havnt gone quail hunting you shouldnt be calling him a moron, or an idiot. Hunting quail is like tracking a target in a video game. Sometimes you get tunnel vision and folow the target behind objects and pull the trigger anyways. It just so happened this guy was in the way.

My point is, Cheney has proven himself an idiot in the political arena, and can't even go hunting without shooting someone. Perhaps part of the blame was the stupid lawyer not announcing himself, but every good hunting group knows to keep track of one another regardless. Edit- Sorry to rip on your post Peace, but have you shot anyone accidently? Is it excusable for our Vice President to do it? No. Last edited by Electrofreak; 2006-02-14 at 05:24 PM. |

Now as far as hunting goes, that was quite dumb, and blame always resides with the shooter, unless someone deliberatly jumped out in front of you when you pulled the trigger. It's not the wounded mans fault for sure! I understand that he was acctualy standing behind Cheney(at a distance). You plain just don't shoot unless you knwo FOR SURE that people aren't down range, that is if your a decent hunter

The VP is VERY important in the senate right now, votes are very close and sometimes are tieing he casts the decision.
Also he's the leader of the Project for the New American Century, he's very very important to the NeoCons policy.

The thing is if your a halfway decent hunter you know you need to pay attention to stuff going around you, because you might just end up shooting someone.
Yes I hunt, or did, haven't gone out in a while now. Tunnel vision is not an excuse to run someone over with a car, nor is it when you shoot someone. Cheney is not a moron or an idiot, but I do think he has a disreguard for consequences, and this kind of negligence is to be expected from him IMO.

I wasnt going to reply to Peace's post because I thought he was being sarcastic, but Rob hit the nail right on the head.
I do not think the VP is an idiot, but it must be said. That hunting is NOT a video game, and a good hunter should never get tunnel vision, even in the heat of the moment. If you are so focused on your target that you become neglegent then you have a serious problem. It is up to responsible gun owners to make sure these mistakes do not happen. Whether they be hunters, marksmen, collectors, or protecting their home. |
