Yes, a Wagon. But no ordinary Wagon. Ladies and Gents, I introduce to you my latest desire, the '05 Dodge Magnum SXT AWD.
First, heres some pretty pictures from the Dodge website: Alright so now that's done, let me tell you what makes me even consider a wagon. First things first, I'm looking to buy the SXT AWD, which means an AWD car with a 3.5L V6. No, not the Hemi 5.7L V8 that is available. I can't afford that unfortunately. However the V6 still puts out a respectable 250 bhp with 250 lb/ft of torque. Factor in the AWD and it's got good spring for a 2-ton car. This is the same engine that goes into the second engine up for the Dodge Charger. Second, the car I've found that I want to buy is fully loaded. All leather interior, heated leather seats, 8-point adjustable power seats, power windows and locks, tinted windows, keyless entry, remote engine start, 288 watt Boston Acoustic 6 speaker sound system with CD changer and AUX in, rear flip-down 7" LCD screen DVD entertainment center and AUX-IN ports (XBox anyone?), Traction Control, Stability Control, power sunroof / moonroof, 18" brushed aluminum rims, power adjustable pedals, telescoping adjustable steering wheel, autostick manumatic shifting, fog lights, heated mirrors, 72' cubic storage space, advanced dual stage front and passenger airbags, 5 star front and rear crash test ratings... you get the idea. Its pimped out. And yes, I can afford it. AWD + snow tires + traction and stability control = no more Electro flying through 65 mph speed limit signs into the ditch. Having more than twice the horsepower I currently do also should keep my speed demons happy. If / when I get it, I'll post the actual pics etc. Its not Hamma's Evo but it's certainly got a sense of luxury. Sitting in the back with the DVD entertainment center flipped down feels like riding in a limo. Now all I need is a chaffeur... Last edited by Electrofreak; 2006-10-31 at 09:21 PM. |

Oh, that VW piece of poo. 200 hp AFTER turbocharged. Sure, if you like wasting premium grade fuel on an weak engine. You've got turbo lag to deal with, not nearly as much pulling power, not nearly as much room, no AWD, doesn't have half the luxuries and standard equip that the Magnum has. I've also heard those things have terrible reliability and the warranty isn't nealy as good as Dodge's.
Not to mention I think it looks terrible. No thanks. EDIT- Peace, its about 25 IIRC with AWD, but, for example, that's with 87 octane. GTI has to use premium fuel IIRC, which means its 32 mpg FWD ends up being just about as expensive. Last edited by Electrofreak; 2006-10-31 at 11:28 PM. |

I don't have the Evo anymore. Long story
Nice ride, seems practical and lots of features.. I like features. Hamma sports a Chevy Malibu SS now in electric blue, with pretty much all those features you listed for the Wagon |

Wait, what?
The Magnum is nice, and you are correct, it is indeed "pimped out". But the Magnum is nothing without the Hemi. Believe me. This girl I worked with in Rancho Santa Fe had her parents buy her a brand new 06 Charger with the 5.7L Hemi. That thing pulled like a freight train. |

Rob probably means 230-240 hp Peace. It's a pointless arguement, since I could drop a Zoomers dual exhaust onto the Magnum for another 25 horses, taking it up to 275, while jacking its fuel economy UP to 26 mpg. Or if I was crazy, I could throw a supercharger into it. I'm not a big mechanic myself but my neighbor runs his own garage and my step-moms boyfriend is a body shop artist. I can easily get some cheap modding done.
Yeah the GTI has faster acceleration than the Magnum. Sure, that's great. But it's not AWD. I could drop the AWD off the Magnum and get the 5.7L Hemi (drool!) but the fuel economy is too low (even with MDS, Chrysler's technology that shuts down half the cylinders for crusing). I'm getting the AWD first and foremost so I can have a reasonably powerful car that WONT fly off the roads. Up here in the snow belt that's important. EDIT - Oh God. I've found a R/T, that's the Hemi 5.7L V8, for sale only 2 hours away, for 3 grand more. And it's also fully loaded and AWD. God help me. $24,500 before taxes. What do you guys think? Sounds like a deal to me
Not to derail the thread but I may as well finally explain. I bought the car, was happy with it and everything was dandy. About 3 weeks after purchase I discovered that I got assraped. I blame myself, and the criminal car dealer - I came in knowing exactly what I wanted and the prick took advantage of me. After I discovered that, I could not look at the car anymore. I felt like a sucker everytime I sat in the seat even though I loved the car. So I filed the appropriate complaints and then got rid of the evo for like 9 grand less than I bought it for a week before. Even though I took a hit, I still feel better now and dont feel like a sucker anymore. It was more of a mental thing than anything - I just could not live with myself I got a fully loaded Malibu SS which while not the fastest car on the road is as comfortable as hell and takes off when I need it to. |
