The best way to make the text legible (in photoshop 7) is to give the layer a stroke in the blending options. Select a size and color that gives you the look you want. I would try the default red or maybe black for the new sig you posted.

The problem with that sig though is that the pattern he used for the text is so close to the background that it wouldn't matter if he added a stroke to it. Choose a different pattern or color scheme for it.

Check out the bottom of my sig for an example of using layer effects to draw out contrast among very similar background patterns. Granted, I used outer glow instead of stroke, but there are a lot of ways to subtly make the text readable while still keeping it similar to the bg.

Thanks for all the input guys I have Photo-paint 8, so I'll try some things to make it easier to read. If anyone wants me to make a cool sig for them, I'll try my best to do so.
