I'm looking for a gaming laptop... but aside from alienware notebooks I don't know a whole lot of companies who have them.
I've seen the toshiba x200. So you know how much I'm gonna spend... I'm going for around 2500$. Since I'm selling my desk and my desktop I'm gonna have well over 1200$ of deposit and then some to get a small loan that I can repay each month. Look has alot to do with the purchase, performance obviously is really important as I will not be buying another computer for the next 2 years easy... I don't care if in two years I'm running games at the lowest specs possible... just as long as I run them. Let the suggestions begin!

If you don't have enough money to buy it and you don't actually need it:
You don't need to buy it. Laptops are horrible for future-proofing. Right now the graphics parts are bad news considering DX10 is here and starting to be used. If you really want to go though with this www.sagernotbooks.com. For a "gaming" notebook that's one of the better ones in terms of value.

It's not a loan, it's a card called Accord D wich basicly in certain stores finances my purchase for whatever time with no interest. Perk of living in Quebec and being with the right bank.
The reason for the laptop is because to be honest a desktop takes too much space for where I live right now. So I don't really mind going with something I MIGHT change in a couple of years. For DX10 I've seen a couple of laptops around with DX10 cards... so I don't see the problem. The money isn't an issue. I just started up a new job as a weight loss consultant... 45k a year plus benefits and performance bonuses each month. Woo!

Why didn't you say that in your first post? We all still think you've got essentially no money(and just about as much sense with it) at all from your ridiculous car buying thread.
But ok, you afford it, great. Find the laptop with a high end DX10 part in it. Dell doesn't have it, sager doesn't have it, alienware doesn't have it. That's because it doesn't exist, the best you can get is a dual 7950 nvidia, a DX9 part. The nvid. 8600 is a midrange card. I've got a X1600 in my notebook which is a midrange part, it's OK, but it runs modern games at low settings and eh framerates.

I figure if explaining something properly consistently fails to get the point across. I should stop wasting my time with it.

Not enough room/I'm on the go alot. I do alot of mileage recently and I move about alot. I need it for work/entertainement as well...
I really have no choice but to let go of my good old desktop. My first choice would also be desktop for sure... but yeah.

I, too, am looking for a nice gaming laptop that I can bring with me to and be able to play BF2142. I google'd gaming laptop (i'm a noob) and came up with..
http://www.bizwaremagic.com/buy-note...Xtreme_770.htm Custom: Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 2.4GHz, 4MB Cache, 800MHz / New Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT 512MB (DX10) / WSXGA+ X-Glass rock logo / 2GB DDR2 667MHz RAM / 160GB 7200rpm S-ATA / 8x +/- Dual Layer DVD Writer / No TV Tuner / US qwerty Keyboard / Windows Vista Home Premium / No Thanks / Standard Carry Case / No Thank you / No Additional Software / Pixel Guarantee option not taken / US/Canada Power Lead Basically not customised at all. What are your opinions? Seems good enough for me. I have a huge monitor that I'll be lugging with me so size doesn't matter I've only just begun my search, meaning I checked out this computer and one from Dell (it was $400 more yet entirely slower / crappier than this one). It is a bit pricey.. ($3,289!) but I've been saving for a long, long time. Last edited by Evilmp; 2007-09-11 at 07:28 AM. |
