I know there was a mention of a day/night cycle, and it seemed like it would actually look like it was night. I wonder if there will be some kind of night vision, or Darklight or something. Along the same lines, I always thought if you killed the generator in the base, the lights should go out, or at least maybe except for a few emergency lights. That is, if there will be gens in PS2.
Think about how some of those massive battles would be like if you had them in dark corridors much like you might see in a game like F.E.A.R. I realize the engine in Planetside wouldn't allow for that, but haven't really heard any mention of the possibilities with the new engine. Maybe I'm alone in wanting something like that.

I'm partial to night actually being night, with little or no night vision gimmicks. I don't want night time to become "Oh look it's night, better turn on my night vision goggles and stare at 256 shades of green for the next 20 minutes".
Plus I think firefights in the dead of night would be one hell of a light show. |

If there would be a night vision i think it should be UBER dark and the only thing you could see is where your inferred light could shine so it wouldn't light up a whole lot just small area might be good if your coming up on someones rabbit hole but other then that it would suck to keep it turned on.

There's no proper nights confirmed, so why would there be night vision?

They actually did recently confirm the new engine supporting some amazing day/night cycles. The question is, will it get dark enough to require night vision?
Moving through a seemingly abandoned facility with a blown generator and only emergency lighting would be an awesome excuse for night vision and some hectic firefights in the dark, but I can't say I'd want to use night vision 50% of the time I'm playing. I think a perfect solution would be having a night vision mode on your Darklight that could be used in shadowy, disabled bases. On the surface, when the sun sets it will be harder to see outside but not require night vision just to move around and fight. Maybe a scout could get to higher ground and use night vision binocs to scan for incoming units, but the average player could still function in low-light without a special vision mode. -HC13 |

Yes I know and PS1 technically had a day/night cycle as wel. They haven't exactly said how 'dark' they are going to be, hence me saying they have not confirmed 'proper nights'.
The problem with 'nights' is from balancing standpoint it means everyone will have to have access to nightvision (and not via certs/implants - permanent nightvision available to everyone). Otherwise people will simply gamma hack.

As was said in the other thread, if there was night, a nightvision equivalent hopefully wouldn't be the green crap from other games, though I'd be just as happy without any sort of nightvision. |

Do you know why there are tracers in the first place?

In case he doesn't, it's so we can "trace" where the fire is coming from. Going to, also I guess. So we don't get killwhoring sniper cheaters raining death from some far cloud or floating in space, while remaining invisible.
BTW in Facing Worlds, in Unreal Tournament, did you all ever find the invisible platform in space? |
