What kind of lighting are we going to see?


I can't wait to see the light effects in this game, if the forge light is so advanced then if they add them to aircraft, then it'll just add it that extra feel.

... Suffice to say the lighting you would come to expect from the unreal 3 engine..

We havn't seen the new lightning yet.....

Yes that was a terrible joke.


The lighting looks good from the trailer. So "Good" is my final answer. Maybe their programmers or artsits can answer better.

Watch the trailer, notice weapon fire casts dynamic lights on the faces of the soilders as well as the surrounding area, affecting the shadow.

Now, on top of that, lights from actual common light sources. Gone will be the days of Planetside with only one bit static light source and affected everything outdoor and indoor. I would guess if you remove all light sources from indoor areas, it would be quite dark. There is always a background light affecting the whole world, to simulate light reflected from pretty much everything like walls, boxes, just everything. Without that, you would end up with extremly dark places just because there is no light source close enough, would require to put a light source pretty much everywhere. The technology to actually simulate reflected light realistic is in development, but the nessesary power of a GFX would make it pretty impossible to have that AND a big open world with 1000 players fighting each other.

I would totally Love lightning to hit random players every like 1year (game time) would be cool and once a game year prob is only like 24-48hours RL time. i dont know for sure what game time to RL time is cus there no info but i was just guessing

What? No sir. It's a well known fact that metals common to the surface of Oshur are known to attract a high volume of strikes. Compound this with the frequency of electrical storms and the potential for casualties on that continent was deemed to be too high for human habitation or even armed conflict.

I'd -love- to see an extremely hostile environment.

I know you probably meant "lighting", but I'm already impressed with the storm lightning in PS1. Ever looked in the right spot at the right time to see the actual bolt? It's pretty cool. I'm sure PS2 will be even more breathtaking.
