So with Planetside 2 we are getting a massive massive amount of skill points it seems as far as an example of you can spec into a single tank for a year. Thats pretty ridiculous. But the idea of using the EvE skill system with such huge customization, variety, and progression... I think it could have success transfering over into a fantasy mmorpg.
Just some examples of how I would see it. Shields for starters....a large option for shields. Out of many many things you could do to it there would be different way to make it your shield. Such as little enhancements of metal to say make it more resistent to slash attacks, blocking slash attacks is more effective and has a chance of shaking the attack for a moment breaking combos. Or deep down the line your shield becomes magic resistent. And what type of material have you used or upgraded your shield. Hopefully you can get the jist of it. I would really loved a game with the advanced customization of PS2 skill system with all the crazy stuff and advanced things in the DnD 3.5 universe, mixed with hit-to-damage combat, able to pick styles of combat and even customizable attack swings/combos all wrapped up in a MMO. Kinda a tall order. |

Ive been thinking for a while about how to have a PS like MMO in a fantasy setting; skill based combat and territory control driving the whole thing, rather than quests.
The maps of PS are big; but oh so much more so if you only had a horse to travel around on rather than a fighter plane. With the Forgelight engine being used for the next EQ game and PS, there is no reason why they couldn't make a hybrid game potentially. Darkfall almost managed it, but screwed the pooch with the infinite skill grind. |

Travel is tricky; on one hand you want territory to be vital; sieges, ambushes, etc yet on the other being able to travel to meet up with your mates being vital for people to have a good time.
EVE's travel system is in some ways the best and worse out there; you often need escorts to move things around from place to place. |

^^^ And based around it, at least initially it seems. I don't know much about EvE though. I have played but not to any high level degree. Just seems they could've done a little more in ways of directing combat and letting the players have some more control over the whole situation with warp gates.
