I know MAX melee stuff has been brought up alot recently, but what about a MAX that was a pure melee build?
No guns, just melee. Knocking people back etc. Two variants, a heavier one, slow, very hard hitting, heavy armour. Then a faster one, lighter armour, pretty quick with blades, maybe using something like the BFR Flight variant form of movement with jump jetting around. I feel it could make for some interesting, skill based gameplay. |

As long as it isn't stupid easy or OP and done smart/right I could approve of it. I hope it would be challenging but also very rewarding should you master it. And I would love to see a melee tank buster version of a MAX. Ripping holes through tanks with power arms would be awesome. Granted you should be squishy.
I really hope though they are careful if they add a charge move or something. Hate to have a melee MAX the new rolfpwn set up where you always get a kill with it. |

slow hard hitting...why do i keep picturing the trolls from LOTR. I guess it'd be cool if infantry could jump on your back and stab at you with their blades. And the other var. sounds like an anime/manga (whichever you prefer) cream dream.
I remember something that a dev from DICE said. "Is it fun for the other guy?" If he is also donned in such a suit, then probably. If not, then not so much. I dunno maybe something for down the line? post release. Prob best not to mention BFRs at the same time tho. |

As much as the idea might seem cool, it would be quite unplayable, either for the gimped melee MAX, or for the steamrolled squishies.
Most importantly, though, it wouldn't fit. PlanetSide tries to be realistic while being sci-fi. Power-armored melee killing machines only work in WH40k. |

Such a MAX could be really cool, assuming it was balanced appropriately. But you know, I'm not sure if there will even be different variants of MAXes in Planetside 2. While I'm not certain, of course, as none of us can be certain right now, based on the customization trees they're describing, I think that there may simply be a MAX suit for each faction, with tons of options to slot various attachments, engines, armor, reflex-speed, optics, etc. Therefore, a person could "make" a Terran Burster MAX by slotting dual anti-aircraft flak cannons on it, or could make the same MAX into a Pounder by giving it a pair of anti-tank grenade/mortar launchers. So, if MAXes have a melee attack (ie, any MAX can perform a melee attack), that's one thing (and it sounds great to me, and I'm not even a MAX type of soldier), but if there is a slottable (that's a word now o.O) more powerful melee weapon, one could conceivably make a Melee MAX, Vanu, let's say, by giving it massive twin Force-Blade attachments. You could potentially further specialize in giving it higher speed and lesser armor to make it mobile, both for anti-infantry or tank-shredding.
Higby, T-Ray, and the whole crew are seriously impressing me with their work. At first, while we were worried about the introduction of classes, I totally agree with their logic that, now with classes in place, they can dive MUCH deeper into those roles without having to worry "Man, we can't make this sniper rifle THIS awesome, because the character could also have a Med-Gun and High Explosives, and that would just be too powerful." Now, with classes, they can say, "Hell yeah, T-Ray and I want the Bolt Driver to be able to one-shot anyone wearing anything lighter than heavy armor. Make sure the sniper class can't wear heavy armor and can't use a jump pack." The same goes for MAXes, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with. ~Zachariah |

And how would you counter a charging max?
With another charging max. And considering the more open base layouts, we have Planetside:NFL at hand. Offensive line, defensive line and the SL will be called quarterback. If an autorunning max could use it's momentum to punch back enemies (or the cover infront of them, just think about the crates, boxes, whatever) that would add some tactical use. But swordfighting maxes (is there a defensive move for a max in case he faces another max?) would just not fit into the picture. It would be an epic view, but they would just drift apart from the squad... |

I mentioned this in the other thread but having a max with like jets that can propel it forward would be nice for charging enemies. Have the left and right mouse buttons binded to each hand.
