Hello, I just finished my build of my new pc and it has been freezing constantly and my network card keeps failing to work.
750w corsair TX enthusiast V2 non modular i5-2500k @ 3.3 MSI Z68A-G45-G3 Gskill 8gb ddr 3 1600 mhz 9-9-924 (running at 11-11-11-28 atm, had it at proper timings and same issues) Xigamatek 1283SD cooler MSI 460 GTX 1 GB 7200 rpm 1TB seagate 5400 rpm 230GB WD LG basic CD/DVD burner/reader Corsair Carbide 500r Win7 64 bit professional I have reformatted twice but my performance is very sluggish at times. IT runs games fine, but a lot of time when I try to multitask things will freeze up for 20 - 30 seconds. My network card will also tend to fail at these times and I need to reboot to get it to work (it doesn't detect networks and windows says the adapter is not recognized). Windows Explorer also crashes or locks up if I try to do anything immediately after booting. I have the ram in the right slots, and nothing is overclocked besides the card that came pre-overclocked. The HDs and GPU were reused from my old computer that ran fine, but slow due to its age. Everything else is brand new. I have tried running the PC with 1 stick of ram, switching both out, same results with either stick as the only stick in the first slot. Tried to run it without the network card, same problems. I have also formatted and reinstalled windows 7 twice, same issue persists. Strangely enough, my game performance is fine as long as I don't do anything but play the game. What should I do? |

bad memory can only be tested by another memory stick (you could order and return it to test), or a bad mobo (you could order and return it to test). in all honesty, to me, it sounds like a bugged mobo. i think i remember you posted it started happening after you tried ocing? google your parts for anything matching your symptoms to see if you can narrow it down. i wont oc until my system is stable for at least a week on stock. I had some freezups pre-oc.
I unplugged my other HD, and everything is going really smooth now. I had some issues with that HD before, but it was working just to store data on it so I kept it. Hoping that's the problem somehow... |

froze pre-oc? 20 second freezes? prob hdd. i had a similar experience on my home comp. took a week of temporary freeze ups until it died altogether and i couldn't boot at all until i removed the one bad hdd. makes sense too since the os may be attempting to poll your (bad) drive from time to time.

old hdd unplugged (did u flip hdds yet?), flipped out memory, checked all your cables? power consumption requirements? removed video card? hate for it to be mobo or even bad cpu oy. you only have a limited number of parts, and usually its only one of them that is bad.
ive heard complaints about the msi series of mobos. you can go to newegg and read review of several msi series, from freezes (due to base usb headers) to failures after 60 days. not to discourage you, but something to look into. id eliminate everything else prior to mobo. since ive not done a build, its blind leading blind at this point. i know basic hardware troubleshooting, so uve got to do a thorough job of elimination to determine the root cause. it's no fun. |

my second HD is the reason I got the new HD, I spent three days trying to use it and all I can do now is use it for storage.
:/ ATM feeling like mobo... gonna try to find a new HD to test. Edit: all i can find on newegg are rebate issues and DOA issues. Last edited by Bags; 2011-12-16 at 03:16 AM. |
