It most likely is the full size magazine, it just looks very small cos the underslung launcher covers it up.

In "normal screenshots", it looks like a quite a standard 30 rd magazine that we're used to from RL and other games.

Yes, that pic is a few weeks old. It's a photo of the Gauss and an underslung grenade-launcher attachment. When T-Ray first posted it, I tweeted to him "Damn, T-Ray, don't you tempt me to join the NC!" to which he replied "Don't worry, the Vanu get one, too."

It's a damn pretty photo. T-Ray invited us to guess which grenade does what :-)
