I loved that game, I played it for about a year in... must have been around 1999, right around the time Freespace 2 came out. Then again much later, but it was almost dead at that point.
I used to sneak around in a cham laying stacks of proximity mines, there was nothing like making a run behind enemy lines. You had to move fast because your energy would be drained constantly, but you also had to avoid being seen or heard, find that perfect spot, drop your mines then make a run for it back to the nearest friendly power sat. Mess up and you didn't have enough power to make it back, so you'd suddenly lose your cloak and be forced to limp out of enemy territory at a crippling pace, totally defenseless. Good times Tanarus, Outpost 2 multiplayer and Freespace practically defined the late 90's for me. |

Do you know that Tanarus 2 turned into Planetside? That's where the Lighting, Vanguard, and Magrider came from. The Devistator is pretty much a Prowler and the Cham is a Wraith.
My station account is from March 1996 or 1997 (i can't remember which year station accounts were required) I remember playing Tanarus before you had to have a station account, the Lagrider, Farce and Pheniz wars, and when flairs would crash the server. -BoBaFett |
