What is this Beam of Light?

A few of the new screenshots have it but, no one can give a straight answer of what it is, and no its not a warp gate.

What is it?

My guess is a Commander set waypoint.
[Edit: My explanation to why: If you notice, each of the "beam" colors when inside a base, is a different color then the base itself. It gives the idea that these are waypoints for your team which is why they are located in an enemy base in two of the pics. If it was trying to show who owned the base, the beam would be the same color as the walls. I am definitely going to stick with waypoint.]

Yeha in the new beta preview. (linked on PSU somewhere) the guy said he saw watpoints set by his commander from quite a distance away. Thats probably what those are.

It is also possible, that this is the signal that a base has been hacked, and taken over. The color of light depending on empire.

thats what i was thinking more along the lines of but it could easily be a waypoint

I'd put my money on them being waypoints.

sounds right... The blue one could be a NC waypoint and the red one could be a TR waypoint...

it could be some cert a nice ranked com can get, for example like in c&c generals the beam that destroyed alot of stuff... propably not but they sayed there were some stuff they're still discussing about

IT is probably is a way point to alllow all members in the area to help.

Interesting on the second screenie they have a "3" and a "1" on the map HUD. I bet those are the waypoints set up by the squad leader.

Could be a beam signaling a HART landing

If they are waypoints then I'd hope they are only visible to that empire.
