I guess the UK stuff is a month behind the US, we saw and discussed the same thing a while ago. Its just what they think, not fact. With that said tho, depending on how much changes need to be made in beta 9 months is easily possible.

Launch, not beta. And that makes complete sense as a potential launch date. They don't want to compete with other titles for gamer's attention. Fall is the massive release season.

By launching in the first quarter as opposed to the fourth they hit the quiet period where there's less competition for attention. Now, usually this means fewer sales because the most money gets spent in the 4th quarter but not so with a game like Planetside, it's F2P, so they gain a significant advantage. There's absolutely no reason for them to stand toe to toe during a sales season, so a first or (more likely pushed back) second quarter release is a smart move.

This was my thoughts as well when people for whatever reason thought this game was coming late third/fourth quarter last year. Best to avoid going against the big boys if possible.

Don't forget to factor in Station Cash gift cards given in 4Q12 and spent in 1Q13. This also would let PS2 avoid the probable Guild Wars 2 crush in November of 2012 in 4Q12. I personally don't mind if live launch is 9+ months off because there are no units to press, package and distribute in a F2P model. Like Higgles has said a couple of times, one of the benefits of a F2P model is the ability to flip the switch from open beta to live launch with the most current build almost overnight.

9+ = more than 9 months till launch... sounds right with closed beta not starting until like, end of May...

The release date next to the PS2 still says "2012" implying it'll be Q4, so I doubt closed beta would start later than June/July.

I have re-opened the thread. Feel free to discuss that they are predicting PlanetSide 2 to come out in 9 months just don't post the scans.

Releasing right after Christmas (January?) doesn't even hurt PS2 "sales" because Station Cash cards are available already, and will continue to be so.

So long as they're in an open beta or have at least dropped the NDA by late November/early December, and have mostly finalized the stores, players can plan purchases and put Station Cash cards on their Holiday wish lists...
