Current state of this feature:
The dev team are copying BF3 very closely on this one, although I believe they are still not sure which class(es) will be able to utilise the *drop ammo* ability. My suggestion: Allow all soldiers to throw a single clip to a friendly ally in their crosshairs who is carrying the same weapon (or calibre), with the effect of subtracting this exact same amount from their personal ammo supply. Sharing ammo this way, does not have to be mutually exclusive to the BF "drop ammo supply crate" style ability, which could allow supply of ammo for many different calibre of ammunition, possibly including explosives such as C4 or ammo for Heavy Assault weaponry. Reasoning: Even though there are no longer inventories for vehicles and infantry, I would still like to see ammo sharing as an integral part of the gameplay experience and available at some level regardless of class currently being played. Battlefield has obviously spent a large amount of time basing their class skills around attracting people to team based gameplay. Although "Throw down a generic ammo crate" skill does provide avenues for paper-scissors-rock team-based play, however in implementing this PS2 will be losing yet another element of the continuity and immersion of Planetside that made you really feel like you weren’t just playing a shooter, but part of something bigger. If my mate yells "I’m out!" in the heat of battle... I want to be able to throw him a mag! I know I have enough to spare, because I can see so on my HUD, projected glowing neon against my visor! I personally think this creates opportunities for constant teamwork without detracting too much from the forced teamwork, paper-scissors-rock style gameplay that ammo crates create, which I honestly feel can also be pretty fun and rewarding at times as well. Everyone will still have their job to do, and everyone will also be able to help a brother in need. Last edited by Brusi; 2012-04-26 at 01:22 AM. |

That reminds me of splinter cell:chaos theory in co-op mode, you could share all your equipment with your teammate so i would choose the stealthy kit and my friend would choose the guns-blazing kit and we would share the ammo and gadgets. This would be awesome though, since there are times i have run out of ammo and thought, "Do i try to find someone with a ammo box, die, or try fighting with my pistol" but since pistols are normally under-powered in most games i chose the die option.

I fully support this. PS2 has equipment terminals and Gals with equipment terminals. There is no need for unlimited ammo and healing drops. Which is also why I support a healing gun with limited ammo capacity.
One of the reasons I enjoyed PS1 was that if you managed to destroy their generator, they would eventually run out of supplies, if they didn't run out of bodies first. Last edited by Geist; 2012-04-24 at 10:55 AM. |

I WANT THIS really really bad, reminds me of Day of Defeat each person can throw 1 thing of ammo within a life. this limits it so that someone cans just be like here is a full load of ammo lemme suicide ill be back with more. but just being able to throw 1 mag... and make it like the snowball affect, if you throw a mag to a dude you cannot throw another until someone throws u a mag at this point you can thor 1 mag to someone else. This is how it was done in Day of Defeat and it was great. basicaly shows that the individual knows that he can spare the 1 mag without hurting himself in the long run... I WANT THIS so bad

I don't think you read or understand my post correctly. There is a difference. In the current BF inspired ammo dropping system, only one or maybe two classes will be able to supply ammo and in the form of ammo packs. I am suggesting that a lesser version of this ability exist more universaly across all of the infantry classes.

I definitely support this. I made a similar thread a while back advocating for this. My thread was a bit broad, and I think I scared a few people with what I said.
I'd glad most people are open to the idea of running out of ammo on the battlefield now. |

There is probably some people thinking that the ammo box idea is good because you can easily get more ammo, maybe to make the ammo box system better they could add that you have to interact with the box and grab magazines out it and there was a limited number, maybe like 10-15 so that it wasn't infinite and would promote sharing or careful rashining of ammo in desperate times, or you could have selfish people that say "I don't want to give up my ammo." *BANG* then they die and their surplus ammo is unobtainable.

Good idea! Just yesterday playing PS one guy in my squad asked 'Can one of you spare a box of 9mm ammo I'm nearly out' and right as rain, he got the box he needed.
So seeing ammo sharing in PS2 would be great, though having a class (I'm not sure which, or if it's a trade off to carry a box for any class) that can give ammo boxes is also pretty sweet. I wonder how weapon swapping works, I'm going to want to loot VS and NC weapons from time to time! (They'd BETTER allow it!) |
