Im not sure that we seen any sign of water on any screenshots that been released so far, im talkin about rivers, waterfalls etc. Would be very cool to have Water Based Bases. Also cant wait to see how forgelight renders the water. thoughts?

You're gonna have to wait on that. Since Vanu are the only ones really capable of full miltary force crossing bodies of water, this would set the other empires at a disadvantage, even if the amphibious deliverer returned.
On a good note, it's possible, as the devs HAVE mentioned their wanting to eventually add in naval units. So it's very possible. I for one am a fan of anything naval or aquatic, so let's hope for all the water goodies we can get. |

And yes, I'm also curious to see how the amazing Forgelight renders water |

Can't help thinking that E3 will answer so many questions.
Even if Beta isn't announced or released then - I still think we're going to see a lot more pics and footage; including more of the units in action, and more of the world in general, and more explanation of the strategy meta-game. |

I'm pretty sure there'll be some rivers or lakes to add some variety to the continent maps. After all, we need bridges with tactical value (ie, cutting minutes from travel times) so that we can fight over them!
We've seen a bridge in a screenie before, but it might have been over a canyon or something dry - if that's the case, I expect tanks etc to be able to drive in the bottom of the canyon. I think we'll also see bridges over deep water so that forces fighting up there, or lots of swimming (and no tanks, except maybe mags). A waterfall would be kick ass though, I want to see some huge variations in terrain height etc to make for some really interesting battles where tactics will play a big part. |

Naval warfare would be awesome! I was actually thinking about the possibilities of that the other day...bear with me for a moment here:
Picture first a coastal base, similar to some of the bases back in PS1 where they were maybe 100-200 meters from the water with a nice big beach. Turrets are blazing away at aircraft, AMSs are trying to sneak up a wide open beach to setup at the back door, infantry and tanks are running everywhere. Now add in a coastal bombardment, with a carrier-type base/vessel spawning amphibious landing craft and aircraft. Maybe make each massive naval vessel only spawnable from a shipyard, and in order to spawn say, a battleship, you would need someone to spend roughly twice as many cert points as a galaxy pilot. To spawn a carrier, you would need someone to spend 3x what a gal pilot would, but they would gain XP from people getting kills, repairs, etc from their carrier, and they could drive it up and down the coast as they wished. Feel free to expand more on that one... My next question is this - obviously they won't just leave water out of the game entirely, but FFS can we please SWIM?!! No more of this walking along the bottom of a river crap...maybe make someone sink faster in Rexo and float in an infil suit, but don't disable swimming completely. Third scenario... Floating base with both land bridges up top, and submarine bay entrances underwater. Infantry can drop into the ocean and swim up from beneath, come in across the bridges up top, or land at docking points in their amphibious/aquatic assault craft either spawned from a carrier or from the shipyard base(s). Larger, galaxy style transport submarines could be built at a shipyard only, while smaller, deliverer-type transport subs could be spawned from carriers. Multiple sub bays would ensure the underwater entrances didn't get clogged, and maybe have smaller hallway entrances that would only allow a few infantry through at a time but would give infils and others a back way in besides the sub bay. Additional caveats - Maximum 3 shipyards per continent, and DON'T put them near an Empire's sanctuary. Put the shipyards halfway in between on the coastsides, so that empires would be forced to defend them as a major asset if they wanted stronger forces against naval bases. Naval bases would also have tower/landing pads for aircraft of course, and their own submarine/small watercraft/landcraft spawning facilities. (cough-modified biodome+tech plant combos half submerged/stacked on top of each other-cough) What do you guys think? Last edited by PeteHMB; 2012-05-14 at 09:44 AM. |

I think naval combat - including submarines, is only a matter of time.
Maybe not super-huge capital ships - or at least not pilotable ones, but I'd definitely like to see torpedo launches, mini subs comprising of two or three people, and RIBs with machine guns - or modules for fitting various types of weapon. Surface docks, submarine docks, offshore platforms and underwater biolabs all sound like excellent places to fight over. |
