How exactly is this implemented without creating mass confusion for players? Are the channels segregated per tile? So if I cross the border of one base to a different contestable piece my "main" voice channel auto switches?
Also, the videos I have watched said that when you're in a vehicle with someone, you're automatically placed in a voice channel with them. Does this just create some kind of new tab, like a chat box? Am I able to switch between speaking with my vehicle-mates and my other team members that might be fighting around us? Also, what about when an outfit plans an assault on a base? Surely they will have their own chat channel, but will they be able to also speak to the other members of their faction that aren't in their outfit so that they can make good use of the less-organized, non-outfitted players? If it is possible to switch, does anyone know if the process is seamless and easy to do mid-combat some how? For example, lets say I am leading a flight squadron to a base. I want to be able to co-ordinate with my pilots/gunships/galaxies who would be in my outfit/group and with other team members that are on the ground and not part of my group. It'd be nice to let them know when the gunships are making a pass and where, so they can take appropriate cover and not get caught in friendly fire. Last edited by Comet; 2012-06-16 at 01:45 PM. |

I believe they said you could make channels and password protect them.
I'm honestly not sure how well it works, but it seems at least quality wise to be pretty good from the live stream. This is one of those things we need time with the game to answer, though. |

Yeah you're right Inferno, I was just hoping I missed some information on the topic and there were more details.
Even if I can create my own, private voice channels, it still might be a hassle to communicate with others outside the channel or in different outfit channels so it'd be nice to be able to switch between them easily. |

I hope that they have included a system at least as good as the one you have described, hopefully something even deeper and more seamless. It will make a huge difference for the ability for random players to improvise teamplay. I think it could be a huge benefit to outfits too, automating communication groups in game so that they don't have to on third party programs.
I want to see exactly what kind of voip system they have in game before I make any suggestions to improve on it though. |

They also mentioned that if you get into a multiple-crew vehicle it would automatically put you into that vehicle's channel (I'm sure you can also leave that channel) and I think it's the same for squads. However, there wouldn't be channels based on location so much as group.
Of course (as was previously mentioned by others) you could make your own channels as well. |

Looking at other games for inspiration I would hope for something like:
LFG Grunt - Location based voice only! (ie only other units withing a certain radius can hear this audio..audio is 3d positional and occluded as in with Mumble/Murmer, Arma2 etc..) Grunt in Squad - Location Chanel as above - Squad radio (not 3d positional , radius or occluded to all in squad) CR5 running Platoon - Location (as above) - Squad (as Above) - Platoon radio (as per squad but across whole platoon) Grunt in Vehicle - Location (as above) - Squad (if valid) - Vehicle radio (not 3d positional, radius or occluded to all in Vehicle) This means you will need PTT (push to talk) keys for : - Local - Squad - Platoon (only if CR5) - Vehicle Local could be done with non-PTT , but then you would need a mute key for when the Mrs yells at you for playing PS2 too much.. Anyways, thats my thoughts...I really really hope they include the Local / positional radius voice, it adds SO MUCH to ArmaII, Project Reality etc..and allows for localized organisation with randoms.. |

Do they plan to make a global voice chat system?
In project reality there is a PR mumble server...you go to a PR server that has mumble supported and you can talk to your team to anyone in mumble local range or to specific squads and the commander. Local range means everyone that is in mumble on your team can hear you to a certain distance, if you're within range by away you can hear the person talk but barely. If you're up close you hear them just fine. OR is the voice chat for PS2 gonna be squad only? |
