Is anyone still skeptical of the f2p model that Ps2 is going with and their ability to keep the promise of no pay to win creeping in?
Reason i ask, everyone does realize that the Smed is still at SoE right? The one that has destroyed good titles in the past in the name of a quick buck... |

I'm skeptical, yes.
Though it is only very minor there are a couple things that seem to be heading in the pay2win direction. Environmental camo can give an advantage in that regard to players, as well as resource boosters will be able to use vehicles two times as often as regular players(with a 200% boost). The second isn't as minor, but it can easily be fixed with proper cooldowns. |

There is always a danger of a good model slowly being corrupted by unfair paid products. The need for a company to make money will have to balanced with what the community will tolerate. Hopefully we as a community will make an uproar whenever something seems broken, and hopefully SOE as a company will continue to respect our opinions. The development team has been extremely good in this regard, but as for the future, only vigilance and tenacity will guarantee that this game remains f2p and not p2w.

I've been skeptical from the start, and i remain skeptical.
What i am counting on, is that it will not be blatent and still be somewhat balanced. My hope is that the game will reach a critical mass of players quick enough with this sort of hide and seek "buying power", that SOE won't be forced to take drastic measures and release content with obvious advantages. The PS2 Fanboize will play a large part in shooting down "THAT SHIT YOU CAN BUY IN THE CASH SHOP IS FUCKEN OP" threads before they get out of control. I still think a certain level of Pay-2-Win is inevitable, for the main reason that the term can be fairly subjective. Also: SOE will have to control their greed... Cause if they release any pay to win weapons, they will fricken sell like hotcakes! Simple as that!

F2P is here to stay and a very good business model for a persistent game. League is very successful and has a ton of fans because of the low barrier of entry. If SOE can continue to support the game with content that players feel is worth a couple bucks then the game will be fantastic. Low barrier of entry, highlights that will make people want to play, and a deep tactical battlefield is all fantastic goals for a game on the pc.
Best decision SOE made on Planetside 2 in my opinion, brings interest and excitement that everyone can celebrate. |

I honestly don't think this type of criticism is good at this point. While you and I might not like some of what his team have done it the past others have. There are solid reasons for not letting pay to win models in and he recognises this. I think the proof that people will pay to get purely cosmetic changes is a proven model. |

Me too actually, need to keep it at the forefront imho....in my humble opinion the "pay to win creep" could very well be the downfall of ps2. I hope it doesnt loving what i see....thus far...but lets not be naive about f2p models and most certainly not be naive about SoE and some who work there.
