Just to get a sense of how much depth and nuance grand strategy can have, and how much a game can let the players decide things on the highest strategic level instead of just the moment-to-moment action.
That is all. |

You're not as clever as you think. It's eminently possible that people don't know about grand strategy games or don't know how much depth and strategy there is. My point is reasonably and exactly the opposite of what you snarkily assumed for the sake of looking witty. How could we possibly assume people who the nuances of a game just by knowing the genre's name?
only the arrogant think that they have no room to improve. |

My cousin used to be a game developer some years ago, one of the lead designers for his team. One time we went into a game store and he told me to go get every game I'd played and absolutely loved. Then he removed the ones he'd already played and put all the games on the company credit card. Then we went home (yeah, this was off work hours for him) and spent the evening playing those games, while he took notes. Real developers know where to find inspiration. PS already has the core elements it needs, and is already well-inspired by other FPS games. I won't say that the devs shouldn't play Hearts of Iron (admittedly I haven't played it myself) but at this point in the development of PS2, there needs to be more focus on balance and development of existing mechanics than pursuing new development avenues based upon inspiration from another game. Maybe after release when they begin working on the next major expansion they can start looking at other games again for inspiration on how to implement new features and game mechanics. While I'm hoping for a well-thought counter argument, currently I'm expecting pathetic insults, because that's what we've seen from you thus far in this thread. And the question is, are the devs looking at the right games for the right reasons. They may not be looking to improve anything strategy related at all. |

There are a lot of things I hope SoE is drawing inspiration from. I'm also operating under the reasonable assumption that they're well-rounded gamers. Last edited by maradine; 2012-06-23 at 08:32 PM. |

It you really think that as a gaffe and not just poking fun you need to stop posting and have a bit of a think for a while.
