Liberator as troop transport

To me the Libby looks like PS2 version of MI-24 Hind which is capable of transporting small spec-ops strike teams to targets & give CAS support to them.
I searched but I couldn't find any info about certing the Lib for holding more passengers, has it been confirmed/hinted that this option is possible for the Liberator?

All Liberator seats will be gunner-seats, as it is a small bomber. You could however spec the Galaxy to have greater firepower at the cost of seats, making it close to fitting a supporting gunship distributing small forces and giving supportive fire when done.

Yeah I know Libby is operated by 3 man crew, and I have seen that vid Rago linked. Since Galaxy can be certed to hold more passengers (up to twice the standard capacity if I'm not mistaken) It could mean that such passenger certification for the Lib is also coming.

Now that Galaxy is really valuable as a spawn point, I rather use the Liberator to transport troops to secondary objectives around the big bases and give CAS to them as long as possible.

I don't see why the Lib shouldn't be able to sidegrade out of gunship configuration into light transport configuration. Make it carry two passengers, the tailgunner, a nosegunner, and the pilot. Like a flying Deliverer basically.

Exactly, though I was hoping it to hold at least 3 passengers + the crew, you know a delta team equipped for capping while the Lberator crew provides CAS.

I second this.

On that note, I'd love to see the Phantasm back. Unarmed, cloakable, medium speed and medium armored transport aircraft for half a squad of people (no Maxes). Really cool, really useful (and not exploitable after they removed the Mossie gun it had when it was first released).

They could always make a modification of the transport liberator mod that removed all guns and added a cloak. I'm not against adding new models, but I could see the Liberator being sidegraded into a Phantasm to reduce development time and costs.

If there is a "Transport" sidegrade for the lib, it should replace the secondary gunners weapons and add two seats.

Pilot (with nosegun), three seats and a tailgun. Possibly with a2g oriented AI or AV tailgun options... but the point should be to change it from a heavy gunship, for more seats, to fit the new role of light CAS / Tranport.

If it can be both, no one will run the pure gunship config.

Liberator has three utility slots, each could be used for allowing 1 extra passenger. Instead of having pilot nose gun, nanite repair system or ground radar you could have one extra passenger instead. I think it would be fairly balanced system and you could still keep the tail gun & the bomber gun.

I guess variety is the spice of life.

But I don't see the Lib being mobile enough to make this practical. It's like a fat duck when in VTOL mode.
