I've heard some people complain that, unlike PS1, there seems to be no meta-game in PS2. What is meant by this is that groups of players can't have a very significant impact, and going to other continents simply seem to be down to personal preference, rather than being a tactical decision or an actual requirement.
And I somewhat agree. I'm specifically concerned about resource distribution, and that since the resources seem to be scattered equally across the continent (this is just based on what we've seen on Indar). This makes it seem somewhat shallow, because on one hand it will make it easy for factions to keep a balance of what resources they are getting, whilst on the other it will be nearly impossible for an outfit to make an organized effort to corner the market. Why? Because the hexagon system (which is great) forces your faction to acquire adjacent hexes - with irrelevant resources - in order to solidify you presence in the relevant hexes. What do you guys think? Should they stick with the Indar-way, or would you rather see continents with a high concentration of a specific resource? I'd personally prefer the latter, because it will make it easier for outfits to make a significant impact, and will create a situation where outfits will choose, or be forced, to go to a specific continent simply due to its current tactical potential. |

For me the resource system is the biggest wildcard in the game, meaning that I really have no idea how it will work. My biggest concern is that if an empire gets locked to their stronghold (warpgate), then they will become resource starved and won't be able take back any territory from the other empire who have vastly more resources then they do.

Even then, I believe this song by Heywood Banks shall provide insight on how to resolve this issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=609ry15lzMo |

I would really like to see some variance between continents.
Another metagame pet peeve for me is all the useless things in the new bases. In the old ones, EVERYTHING had a purpose and could be used, the only things even remotely cosmetic were behind the spawn room. Other than that, all the equipment terminals, command centers, etc... all had uses. Now I'm seeing like, railguns as capture points? What do they do? Nothing? Just look nice?

Yeah we've had a few threads on this subject. I completely redesigned their system from scratch since I don't feel they went in the right direction. You can read about it here. Probably not what you had in mind if you like territory based resources, but it solves all the foreseeable problems people have brought up.

I think a player should get resources from all the maps, not just the map he is on,
so he would care if another map is overrun, to relocate to that map. Looking at the Indar map I see one resource per hex, which is a good thing. Because it creates a choice which hex you need to get which resource. I am asuming that bioplants still give a spawn benefit, which is also a good thing. Because it creates a choice which base you attack to get which benefit. For strategy it helps if there are hexes with rare items. Like the Pulsar Factory Base gives the owner access to pulsar rifles. |

This whole thread is idiotic. We don't know anything that could even remotely lead to anything like the wild speculation in this thread. Atleast the driver/gunner thread has some sort of defineable value, and aknowledges that it's speculation and arguments have little relation to the actual game development. But this..? This is completely redundant and unneccessary.

Nobody knows what the final resource distribution per continent is gonna look like (evenly distributed, limited? Could all change in beta). Resources are part of the meta-game but how that meta-game will shape up for the rest isn't revealed yet (I hope there's more than just a resource war, at least down the line). The stuff John Smedley talks about in that early announcement Q&A (player-owned stuff, droppable towers, EVE/SWG influences) might already be dated and is also probably too far off (read: post-release features).
They've only showed the basics in-game and only lightly touched on other mechanics like missions or resources. All I can hope is that a meta-game is more clearly conveyed towards all players, in PS1 it was a mess imo (the map, the linked lines, it looked sloppy).
