PS2 Hands on was alot of fun.

Thanks for the chance to sit and play Planetside 2 for a few hours SOE!

Was nice to get in the game and try out the vehicles, the gun and see what the maps are really like to run around in. I had a blast.

A few things I noticed:

- Vehicles all have that same weight that PS1 gave them. Nice and heavy.
- The playstyle with infantry is very similar to BF2. I enjoyed the sped up play. You can kill fast and die even faster.
- Maps are huge. Not having auto run took some time to get used to.
- No med kits was driving me crazy.
- Bases are insane. So massive. HVAR was giant.
- T-Ray is a very friendly guy. We chatted for about a half hour about old PS1 problems and how they are working to avoid them in PS2. I was very impressed by him.
- Purrfect Storm is very intouch with the game as well.
- Higby is exactly like he is in every video. Going 100 mph promoting the game. Full of info and very friendly.

SOE studios and it's staff are great. I enjoyed my visit and the great chance to kick some ass with my brand new Vanu Scythe! Even though flying it was a nightmare.

Cool. They all seem nice people on the vids and from the tweets they post. Wish I was in the US and have a chance to meet these guys. The game is looking amazing and I like to shake their hands for creating such an amazon game.

I'm pretty sure his blood has been entirely replaced with some highly caffeinated beverage.

Higby's been sent from an interstellar alien race to train us as slaves/soldiers for their upcoming war. His species has a higher then usual metabolism leading to accelerated hair growth and endless energy.

I for one welcome our new Alien overlords and their beta.

There are medkids, even shown in one footage from this event. It just is not instant battle heal like PS1 medkit.

Now here's a name I remember from way way back. One of the only ones I listened to when I was zerging solo.

I wouldnt mind a bit of elaboration on what causes the Scythe to be a nightmare to fly, and if it will prove to be a problem once one masters it, or if its just a wash vs other craft. Also, what is it about the flight mechanics that makes it so different?

Thanks

Thanks, back when there was fewer CR5s, it made it fun to try to lead the masses. That all went away when everyone and their brother got CR5 so I just stuck to runin-n-gunnin.

As far as the Scythe, I flew around the map from warpgate to warpgate. It topped out at 190kph if I remember correctly. The thing that made it hard for me was I didn't have my keys set up as I knew I would be swapping to multiple computers so I just went with default. Also, it moves like a UFO. You spin left and right so fast. yet you have that feel of BF2 momentum. The air vehicle fly differently than BF2 but differently from PS1 as well. 3rd person or 1st, it is still alot of fun. I got stuck almost upside-down in mid air because I was tring to shoot a guy on the ground. Once I righted myself I had been shot 1,000 times

As far as mastering it to farm people, I think we all know that's gonna happen with every air vehicle. just give some of these guys time and they will have it down. I spent most of my time in the mag and the lightning. I chased down totalbiscut's Lib in my Scythe but so many people were firing at us I had to bail.

Also wanted to note, the death animations were pretty bad, but T-Ray said they are working on it. And as far as vehicle animations, I think PS1 style animations wouldn't work. I was one of those who were sad to hear it was gone, but now that I've played, the game moves way way faster now. Those style graphics would seem to bring you to a dead stop in the action.

Interesting, Im not much of a pilot, but I will have to give this a try. I hope our Scythes match up well vs the other factions, one vs one, and in mass furballs.

Thanks.

I think the Scythe is difficult to fly because you can apply thrust in any direction, not just forwards.

Did you ask about tank splitted in pilot and gunner ? And about the lack of enter/exit animations ?

And one question for you : how did you feel the weapon's recoil ? Wasnt it too small and allowed you to kill at a long range with a small weapon ? (this is actually the feeling I got watching some Tech Test videos)
