I was watching this earlier:
Its a tour of Aquarius Reef Base, which is an underwater laboratory. Swimming, and therefore diving has the possibility to shift the entire way we think about large scale combat. I want to be able to dive many kilometers underwater, and below continents with hidden and unmapped passages to fight in and around and use to travel behind enemy lines. These caverns, like their real world counterparts, should really be massive... and dangerous. So, instead of laying out an entire method of how to implement it, if ever, ill pose this question instead: What if, under each continent, there were underwater tunnels, caves that were connected to pools and rivers on each side of the map? What if you actually had to guard them and be aware of them? What if there were an underwater city, like Atlantis. That would make these waterways valuable. That would force the necessity of a navy for each side. Not just floating tanks and deliverers, but an actual navy. Suddenly, each continent matters between one another. |

Why, because it would shift away from the BF/COD copying scheme too much and they'd actually have to put effort into it? Because it would bring back the need to coordinate between continents? Because it would increase the size of the game? Because its never been done before?
If anything, they're all reasons to do it sooner. I reject your 'its too much'. Its doing stuff that has never been done before in any mmo. Ever. I say bring back the caves, without the OP tech and base mods, fill them with water and create new underwater vehicles. Keep biffers dead. Do something new with that old idea. The caves themselves weren't bad, its everything that shipped alongside them. Last edited by p0intman; 2012-07-18 at 03:36 AM. |

And if there is a continent added with a bunch of underwater bases, and new vehicles to get to them, then people would use them. I consider that, as long as new capture mechanics and gameplay extensions aren't enormous pains-in-the-ass in and of themselves, they could add variety to the game and make it more interesting, in the long run. Why do so many people think the only battles that would be fun in an MMOFPS are the ones from PS1. I think there are way more possibilities that are unexplored in the genre. Most new suggestions immediately get this 'Oh noes! Nothing new! BFR all-over-again!! herpaderp' and that's it. In terms of the game universe, limiting play to such particular environs doesn't make sense. The very reason and objective of the war itself, and presumably the means by which it is perpetuated, is through the exploitation of the resources of Auraxis. It could further be assumed that these resources don't exist only on land. Hence: underwater bases, offshore rigs, possibly naval combat, at least on the limited scale of a futuristic Navy SEAL team or something. A soldier can die a thousand deaths, but he can't get his face wet? Say what? |

However I do think we need to do something about water oceans and under water other than just some type of obstical that Vanu Vehicles could be the only ones to move across. |

The caves aren't bad. They force you to use teamwork in a way few other places on the map do. You can bring all of the numbers you want, but if you aren't coordinated, they're worthless in the caves. The tech like BFRs, spikers and mods were bad. The caves in and of themselves as maps weren't.

i fucking love this idea. seriously. not only would this be great for average combat, it'd be an excellent way and place to go for infiltrators and stuff.

This ideas has great potential. I see water as something that might even allow sailing between continents in battleships, and battling over deploy-able hydroplants in a future expansion. Instead of having just blank space and a teleporter between continents. The possibilities are endless
